Anna (Anne) Bernadette Mularoni, née Vettraino, age 94, of Redford, Michigan, passed away Saturday, October 28, 2023 surrounded by loved ones. Her love for her late husband Germano "Jerry", of 66 years, was unending, a true love story. Loving mother of John (Anne), Mary (Peter) Collins, Christopher (Marlene), Gabrielle (Pete) Newton, and Margaret (Steven) Burns. Cherished Nonna of Adriana (John Benedetto), Natalia (Ben Covington), Lila, Daniela (Josh VanLeuven), Bianca, Isabel, Alexandra (Sam Oostendorp), Juliette (Dane Peterson), Nicholas, Michael, Edward, Thomas, Anna, Germano, and Anthony “Tony”. Dear Great Grandmother of Luca, Angelo, Elio, and Montgomery. Anne was predeceased by devoted husband Germano "Jerry", her brothers and sisters-in-law Phillip (Rose), Joseph (Blanche), Carmen, Fred (Virginia), and Madonna Mularoni Wright. She is survived by many in-laws, nieces, nephews, and other loved ones.
Anne was born April 3, 1929, in Detroit Michigan to Giovanni & Maria Vettraino, née Soave. She was a proud graduate of St. Catherine High School’s class of 1947. She worked for General Motors where she met friends that she kept the rest of her life. Anne was a devout Catholic since her youth at Sacred Heart Church in Detroit. She and Jerry were members of St. Valentine Catholic Church in Redford Township for 53 years. Anne was actively involved in the Rosary Circle and volunteered in various ways at the school including as a “hot dog mom.” She also volunteered at an adult literacy program helping adults learn to read and write and was an active member of many charitable organizations over the years including Christ Child Society, Redford Suburban League, UDJ Mom’s Club. Most importantly, Anne was always the biggest supporter of Jerry and her children, whether it was running their business, or their children’s school and extracurricular activities. She was invaluable in discerning big and small life decisions.
Anne & Jerry loved spending time in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. They enjoyed having family and friends visit so they could share their favorite out-of-the-way places, whether it was in the mountains, the native beaches, or their favorite restaurants. In Port Austin, Michigan, they truly enjoyed spending time with their children and grandchildren, making memories around the pool, at the beach, around the dinner table, as well as attending small town parades and watching fireworks.
In 1969, Jerry and Anne moved to “The Neighborhood” and developed lifelong friendships with many neighbors with whom they traveled and celebrated many of life’s events. Anne created a beautiful home, where she was “mom” to many of her children’s friends and made everyone feel loved and welcome.
To say that Anne was a “good cook” would be like saying that Anne’s twin, Sophia Loren, was a “cute girl” - a gross understatement that Jerry would’ve found deeply offensive. Anne cooked much the way she lived - with passion, warmth and enough generosity for everyone to have seconds (and thirds and fourths). She was well known for her entertaining abilities; she loved a party and was always the hostess with the most-est. Anne had the unique ability to make people feel special because she always listened intently and was truly interested in what people had to say. Her quick wit could surprise you with an unexpected comment and laugh, all while letting you know you were loved. She had an indomitable spirit and a generous loving heart that was always ready to embrace everyone she met.
Anne passed on from this life within hours of what would’ve been her and Jerry’s 67th wedding anniversary. She was surrounded by the prayers and love of her heartbroken family who trust she is rejoicing as she journeys to her heavenly home. May she rest in the eternal peace and light of our Lord Jesus.
