OBITUARY

Annie Bearden

March 13, 1932March 30, 2021

Annie Bearden, 89, passed away Tuesday, March 30, 2021. Annie was born in Detroit, Michigan on March 13, 1932. Annie was one of nine children born to Pedro & Frances Alvira.

After high school she married and raised her family of six children. She managed the food concessions at the Detroit Dragway (Sibley at Dix) and the Redford Ice Area. In addition to being a “Mom” she was an owner of “Jim & Ann’s Party Store” on Heyden & Warren in Detroit and a second store of the same name on Michigan Avenue and Telegraph. Later, she worked as a Social Worker for fifteen years for the Michigan Family Independence Agency, which she retired from in October 2002.

Annie was a devout member of St. John Bosco (now St. John XXIII) Catholic Church. There she could be found each Tuesday at 9:00 p.m. for her hour of adoration. At age 75 she walked in the one-mile Father’s Day Race and came in first for her age bracket. Her trademark was helping others. These simple acts of kindness were what made her happiest. She would drive others on their errands continuing these services until she gave up her driver’s license (unwillingly!!) at age 82. Annie was the person others could go to if a helping hand was needed. She had and would actually go without, or change her own plans, to help someone. She enjoyed gardening around her home. Her smile could light up a room along with her infectious laugh. Annie was a hardworking, no frills, lady who would say, “I’m strong like bull.”

Annie is survived by her children, Ana (Deb Hemgesberg) Feala, James (Janice) Bearden, Cindy (Bill) Vorce, Becky (Ben) Runyon, Phil (Dawn Russell-Sheperd) Bearden, Gary Bearden; brother, Frank (Carmen) Alvira; sister, Delores (the late John) Hobart; eleven grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren along with many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Annie was pre-deceased by siblings, Lee (Jose) Gonzalez, Angeline (Manuel) Pompa, Irene (Harry) Newton, Rudy (Mary) Alvira, Fred (Gladys) Alvira and Peter (Janice) Alvira.

Friends and Family may visit from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral mass at 11:00 a.m. at St. John XXIII Catholic Church 12100 Beech Daly, Redford, MI. Burial will follow after mass at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Southfield, Michigan.

Mi Madre,
Many thanks for always being the most Loving & Understanding Mom even when I tried your patience once or twice. One being breaking curfew! Walking in backdoor of house on Dixie (like walking The Plank) to see you standing there w/your arms on your hips & that Infamous "Mom look". Uh Oh!! What is she going to say or do to me. ( BIG GULP)! As u walk towards me, still silence, my eyes bugged out of my head , frozen in my tracks. Shaking all over; You grabbed & hugged me & said " I'm glad U are home safe" ( heavy sigh of relief) for both of us. And u said " NOW GET TO BED" GOODNIGHT" !!! I get it Mom. I too spent many sleepless nites with my own kids.
You brought joy to alot of people, you were quite entertaining especially at my pool parties. Busting a move or two, & showing how to do Tequila shots. Great Fun!
Without you I wouldn't have made it through the darkest time of my life, Ken's death. You would say, "Cindy, You will be ok..."If God brought you to it, He will bring you through it"; God has a plan for your life , Always Trust in Him & Keep the Faith" You were a source of knowledgeable advice/wisdom. Enter Bill.; whom you Accepted and Loved him w/open arms from Day 1. I could call you anytime to rant, cry, or whatever the reason you would drop everything to listen. So thanks so much for being there.
When Carley & I, Lizzy & Ally had the chance we would tell you " We are Pretty"! Well U schooled us , You said "You know your Beauty started w/ Me." as you bat your eyelashes. Right again!!
Thanks Mom for all the life lessons. You truly are an Inspirstion to me, A Beautiful Soul w/A Heart of Gold who always extended a helping hand to anyone who needed it. No Judgement!
Heaven is Blessed to have an Angel who I call Mom!! Rest Easy My Sweet Momma. Always in my Heart Forever & A Day. I LOVE YOU & WILL MISS YOU DEARLY.

I have so many wonderful memories with grandma Bearden. Beginning with her making me coco wheats for breakfast before school or taking me to visit Margarita and getting eat cookies and listen to them visit. Of course then it was in Spanish and I had no idea what they were saying! I loved every holiday at her house and getting to play arcade games in the basement and as I got older enjoyed the times we went to church together or just sat outside visiting and enjoying her flowers. She always made you feel like you belonged. I will miss her sweet smile, words of wisdom, calming presence and her silly side too!

Us grandkids spent many weekends at Grandma’s house. Myself, Lara, Rusty, Aaron and my brother Marc. I know us kids drove her crazy. I especially remember one time when I was about 5 years old I thought it would be funny to roll down the backseat window while she was driving down Telegraph and stick my head out to the front drivers window and knock and wave hi Grandma. Yeah she didn’t like that too much.lol But she took great care of me especially when I was visiting dad on the weekend and I was sick. I always loved her for that. She’d very calmly wrap me up a ton of blankets and make me “sweat” my fever out. And let’s not forget her funny faces she’d make when Grandpa Bearden or Dad were trying to be real serious about something and they weren’t looking at her.lol She’d look at us laughing. She always made light of things and was very wise with her advice. And one of the most caring, loving women I have been blessed to know. I love you Grandma. I know there is a very special place in heaven for you.

Growing up so close to the Bearden family in Redford, Annie has always been like a second mom to me. Sweet, loving and kind does not begin to describe her, but her sense of humor and ability to always laugh and smile was just as wonderful and anyone who got to meet or know her was simply blessed to have done so. Annies mom-like relationship continued even as I married and had children myself, as she would always inquire about them and truly enjoyed hearing any details I would share. True blessing inded. From our entire family, George, Christine, Alex and Ariana, we would like to express our sincerest and heartfelt sympathies to the entire family. God Bless

Married to Christine Bearden (20 yrs this October). She was a fun ole Gal, and I had the opportunity to share quite a few laughs with her. One of my favorites memories, is when she asked me to order her a shot of Tequila, I knew at that EXACT moment, that she was my people!!!! You will be GREATLY MISSED. Until we meet again,, CHEERS GRANDMA
