Barbara Ann Schmeling, age 68, of Northville passed away peacefully on June 27th, 2022, surrounded by her loving family. Barb was born of the union of Walter and Anna Bratus on June 5th, 1954. She is survived by her sister and best friend, Karen. Barb was a graduate of Madonna University and enjoyed a satisfying career with Ford Motor Company as a systems analyst. Additionally, she cherished her time as a devoted volunteer at Angela Hospice in Livonia.
Barb had a knack for decorating and a passion for cooking, always looking for new recipes from her favorite magazines and trying them out on friends and family. She was the consummate hostess who loved to host get-togethers and celebrate any and all occasions.
However big her passions were, nothing compared to her passion for family. She relished her roles as "daughter", "sister", “mom”, and “aunt” and her favorite memories were always those spent Up North enjoying time with family. . Later in life she gained her greatest role, that of “Ama” to her 5 dear grandchildren: Jack, Natalie, Kenna, Hannah, and another granddaughter arriving in October.
Barb faced numerous health challenges over the years but fought valiantly at every obstacle, always persevering through each hurdle. It is that bravery and strength that ushered her to her eternal life with her beloved Lord and Savior.
She leaves a host of loved ones to cherish her memory: her dear son David (Kelsey) Schmeling, daughter Kate (Andy) Burns, her beloved grandchildren, her sister Karen Bratus (Martin Fraschetti), nieces Martina (Matt) Scionti, Laura Fraschetti (Mike LaDuke), Paula Fraschetti, her great-niece Sofia, and cats Lexi and Lola who were her constant companions.
A special thanks to Barb’s dear friends and Bible Study group who were always there to lend a hand and offer loving support.
A memorial gathering will be held on Friday, July 8, 2022 from 10:00am until time of mass at 11:00am at Our Lady of Victory: 133 Orchard Dr, Northville MI 48167.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Gift of Life, Michigan Humane Society, or Focus Hope in Barbara's honor.
