April 10, 1922–January 6, 2023
Betty Orr passed away peacefully in Livonia at the age of 100.
Betty was born April 10, 1922, in Sandusky, Ohio, the second of six children in the Woelke family. While attending kindergarten in Pigeon, Michigan, where her father was the schoolteacher, Betty met Robert Orr, the older son of a local pharmacist. Betty and Bob were married in 1944, when he was on leave from the Merchant Marine, and remained together until his death in 2001.
Betty graduated from Capital University in Columbus, Ohio, and taught math at the high-school level for many years. The Lutheran church was the cornerstone of her life. She was an avid gardener, a Scrabble and Jeopardy! enthusiast, and a superlative pie baker. In later years her beloved golden retrievers, Casey and Jackson, provided comfort, companionship, and lots of fur to vacuum up.
Betty was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, two brothers, and three sisters. She is survived by a son, Michael Orr, of Evans, Georgia; a daughter, Dhyan Raufa, of San Francisco, California; and numerous nieces and nephews.
