For over 30 years, Bernie was a devoted and active member of Rosedale Gardens Presbyterian Church in Livonia. He served faithfully as an usher, participated in the men’s club, and was always ready to lend a hand—especially alongside his beloved wife Barbara, who served as a Deacon. His quiet generosity and servant’s heart made him a steady, comforting presence in the church community.
At home, Bernie was known for his gentle nature and thoughtful acts of love. He made a habit of filling up Barbara’s gas tank so she’d never have to worry—a simple gesture that reflected the kind of caring and attentive husband he was. A lifelong mechanic by trade, Bernie had a deep love for working with his hands. He built the deck on their home, enjoyed repairing things around the house, and took pride in restoring and working on cars. His passion for classic cars led him to the Woodward Dream Cruise year after year, and he was just as comfortable under the hood as he was behind the wheel. He also enjoyed boating and found great peace in time spent on the water.
Bernie was the beloved husband of nearly 60 wonderful years to Barbara Malburg. He was a loving father to Susan (David) Beauregard, Eric (Peggy) Malburg, and Beth (Calvin) Sanders. A proud grandfather to Sean Beauregard, Danielle (Nate) Michael, Tara (Jack) Myers, Dustin Malburg, Dylan Malburg, Ryan Malburg, and Karl Sanders. He found great joy in being a great-grandfather to Charlotte Myers, Claire Myers, and Samuel Michael. He is also survived by his dear siblings, Charles and Marilyn Moore.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Cyril and Magdalene Malburg, and his sisters, Barbara Rayburn and Carol Boylan.
A memorial service to celebrate Bernie’s life will be held on Saturday, May 31, 2025, at Rosedale Gardens Presbyterian Church, 9601 Hubbard St, Livonia, MI 48150.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Last Day Dog Rescue, an organization Bernie supported and cared about, or to Angela Hospice Home Care, in appreciation of the care provided to him and his family.
