

Carol Anne Sweeney, age 81, of Novi MI passed away peacefully and into the loving arms of Jesus on 9/13/2026 at Henry Ford Hospital in Novi, MI. Born on 4/22/1945 in Highland Park MI. She was a loving wife, sister, aunt and mother figure to her stepchildren. She was a cherished friend to many. She will always be remembered for her kind heart, beautiful smile, and the love she gave so freely to those around her.
Carol found great joy in many aspects of her life including teaching for 30 years, spending time with family and friends and especially enjoying the many running marathons she was a part of, along with the traveling she did with her husband Dave, around the world to many places. Her greatest gift was the love she bestowed onto others.
Carol is survived by her niece Michelle Hreha and nephews David Hreha (Cheryl), Michael Hreha (Kelly), and Dan Hreha (Katrina), as well as her spouses’ children Michael Sweeney (Lynn), Dean Sweeney, and Terry Sweeney (Ed); Grandchildren Scott, Alexis, Danielle, and Lauren. She also leaves behind her great nieces Brittany, Stephanie, Hannah, Heather, Ella, Ashley, Amber, Amanda and great nephews Anthony, Zack, Drake, and Jack; A very close cousin Gloria Boduch and a very special sister-in-law Janet DeLucia (Mark).
Carol was preceded in death by her husband David O. Sweeney, her parents Charles C. Hinman and Mary Katherine Hinman (Woch), and her sister Maria Denise Hreha (Hinman).
The memories we all shared will bring comfort and her legacy of love will continue through the lives of those she left behind.
A Funeral Mass will take place at 10:30 am on Saturday, September 19, 2026, at St. Edith Catholic Church, 15089 Newburgh Rd, Livonia, MI 48154. Carol’s family will receive visitors at the church on Saturday from 9:30 am until the time of the Funeral Mass at 10:30 am, with a luncheon at church to follow. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to The Wounded Warrior Project, an organization close to Carol's heart.
