Carol Ann Trefney

Carol Ann Trefney, age 91, passed away peacefully on January 8, 2026 surrounded by her loving family, in Livonia, Michigan. She was born on March 31, 1934, in Cleveland, Ohio, to William and Lillian Schad (née Van Bogart).

Carol was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She met her husband, Richard Trefney, in Cleveland, and they were married on October 16, 1954. Together they shared many years of love and family life until Richard’s passing on July 23, 2004.

A proud homemaker, Carol dedicated her life to raising her five children and caring for her home. Her family was very important to her, and she took great pride in nurturing a warm, welcoming household filled with love, faith, and tradition.

Carol was a founding parishioner of St. Colette Catholic Church in Livonia, where she remained an active and devoted member since its establishment in 1970. Her Catholic faith was a guiding force throughout her life.

She found great joy in traveling, especially with her beloved sister, Arlene. Among her favorite adventures were trips to France, Scotland, and Italy, which created lasting memories she cherished deeply. Carol was also an avid baseball fan and especially enjoyed watching the Cleveland Indians and the Detroit Tigers.

Carol is survived by her children: Craig (Jan) Trefney, William (Phyllis) Trefney, Alan Trefney, and Karen (Dan) Werner; her daughter-in-law, Mary Trefney; her sister, Arlene Gall; 11 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Lillian Schad; her husband, Richard Trefney; her son, Donald Trefney; and her brothers, William Schad and Harry Schad.

Carol Ann Trefney will be remembered for her deep faith, unwavering devotion to her family, her love of travel, and her quiet strength. Her legacy lives on through the many lives she touched with kindness, dedication, and love.

A Funeral Mass will take place at 11:00 am on Friday, January 30, 2026, at St. Colette Catholic Church, 17600 Newburgh Road, Livonia, Michigan 48152. Carol’s family will receive visitors on Thursday, January 29, 2026, at the Harry J. Will Funeral Home, 37000 Six Mile Road, Livonia, Michigan 48152, from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm, with a Rosary at 7:00 pm, and again at Church on Friday from 10:30 am until the time of the mass at 11:00 am. A burial will follow at Parkview Memorial Cemetery in Livonia.
