Thank you Mr. McHenry for teaching me to drive. I passed on much of what I learned to my own children. I remember him as a fair, respectful and caring man/teacher. Have thought of him often over the years. I was Judith Ogozaly then - graduate Cody High 1968. May his family find comfort in all the prayers, well wishes and rememberances.

One more thing...
I can clearly hear him asking the question: What does "AMBER" mean? And silly me answered; "YELLOW"? That was a classic my family always laughs at.

Mr. McHenry taught my sister and myself Drivers Training at Cody High School. He was passionate about keeping us safe and the importance of being a safe driver. He was larger than life and made an incredible impression on us both. We still talk about him after 30 years. (And he would be proud to know that at the age of 49, I've never had a ticket or any points on my driving record.) He really cared and had the biggest heart of any man I ever knew! God bless his family!

Chuck has taken that final step into eternity. I pray that the "Peace of God" would permeate through your family and guide you all through the grieving process. He had a great long life. He was very funny with great sense of humor; and a great story teller. We will miss him!

He was my drivers education teacher in 1970' he was tough but fair. He was part of the Detroit Schools empire that was great in those days. If we had classrooms with teachers like him Detroit would be great again.
The motoring public is much safer because of him. Thank you Mr. Mchenry.

Chuck had great humor, compassion... and discipline so he could still kick our butts at football practice-to make us better overall. The Foley family was honored by his close friendship with our Dad, Coach Bill Foley.

I can parallel park and I check my blind spots religiously because of Mr. McHenry...and of course not wanting to get hit by that big red fire truck that he said would hit me if I failed to look! A tough but fair man and well respected, he will be missed...I celebrate his long life! -David Kluz, Oconomowoc, WI.

Mr. McHenry was my Drivers Ed instructor (Cody circa1969). He was an amazing teacher, he turned out a plethora of well equipped drivers. He knew my father drove a bus, as a result I received special attention. The game was to catch me making an error. He kept me on my toes that entire summer. Remarkable man, and generations of respect for him, because he cared.

Please accept our heartfelt sympathy for the loss of your husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.
I grew up hearing the infamous stories of the escapades of "The Gashouse Gang" and periodically listening to "Uncle Chuck" reading events from his diaries.
All through the years Chuck was a good friend to my Mom and Dad, Bill and Fran Stewart. Chuck gave Dad his final farewell by sharing his thoughts and memories in my Dad's Eulogy.
Bill and Chuck are most likely sharing a joke and wreaking havoc in Heaven with their pranks. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family.

Dear Mchenry Family, so sad to hear of Chucks passing. Fellow Wayne State football player (1946-49) fellow member of The "Gashouse Gang", Detroit Public school teacher and Usher in my wedding. Chuck always kept me up to date with news of mutual friends. I hadn't heard much news in the last 5-6 years and always wondered if he had passed. Now, I see it in black and white in the Detoit News. I've asked my daughter Carrie, who also remembers "Mchenry", to write this on the behalf of myself and my wife Joan. I live in Boyne City, distance and my health at present prevent me from attending Chucks funeral. Our deepest condolences to all of you at this time. The loss of a great man and a dear old friend...so many memories...

My grandpa was magic! He would say, "Hokus Pokus Dominokus" and make the Christmas lights turn on with a wink. Little did he know that with that wink, he shined his beautiful light on everyone he came across. I love my Grandpa and I will miss him dearly.

Uncle Chuck, AKA Uncle "Chunk," AKA Cousin Chuck, AKA Tom Selleck. We loved Uncle Chuck. He was the BEST and one of a kind, for sure. Aunt Pat, Rocky, Kathy, Janice, Bill, Mary, and Sharon ~ always remember the great care you gave to your husband/dad. He really loved his life and his beautiful family so much. You are all in our prayers and in our hearts at this difficult time. Treasure the precious memories of your dad. And somewhere up there, we know Uncle Tom, Uncle Chuck, and our dad (Bill) are having one great card game, together again.

I hate referring to Chuck in past tense... as he would lite up a party and fill your heart with joy over various things from Boxing to Catholic Central Football. His positive spirit filled the room with joy and his sly smile was reassuring. Thank god for the Kennedy Christmas parties for they allowed me to know such wonderful people. Chuck will be truly missed as he still brings a smile to my face over the many years of conversations we had.

Mr Mchenry, what can you say about a man with character and true intuition. I had Mr Mchenry for drivers ed in 74 at Cody and he left a lifelong impression on me as well.He could spot a student with an attitude immediately and spot a student who didnt have what he felt what it takes to operate a vehicle responsibly within minutes of getting in that wagon with the right hand controls within minutes of being in the car. Mr Mchenry was a no nonsense kind of man but still made the experience fun if Students showed proper responsibility and respect. Godspeed Mr Mchenry.

I always called you "Mister" McHenry as you were a towering figure in the community and a true gentle-man. You volunteered at nearly everything you can volunteer at and then some. Your blood ran blue for CC all these years and so your Irish shamrock will always be half green and half blue. Your stories showed the flair for drama in times past and your recollection of the most minute details never failed to impress me.
I pray that your angel is now relieved of much tender care you received in later years, with your wonderful countenance and a firm handshake till the last inning. May your angel now watch over your family to comfort them in ways yet to be touched. St. Peter, you will not have to ask his name, his record is well written for all to appreciate and treasure. Godspeed Mister McHenry, Godspeed.
