Chris was raised in Metro Detroit, but would often visit his grandparents up north. While there he developed a love of the outdoors. Hunting, fishing, camping, canoeing and spending a relaxing day on the lake in a boat were just a few of the ways he loved to enjoy nature. Even while at home in Plymouth he would find a way to be outside by riding his motorcycle or four wheeler.
A hard worker, he worked for his father at JR Mathews while in High School and following his graduation from Stevenson High School in 1996. He later when on to work as the head Supervisor of Housing at Adamo Demolition. Chris was the leader in the Blight Removal Initiative in Detroit personally seeing to almost 1,000 demolitions. He took great pride in his job helping clean up the city of Detroit.
Though he had a great sense of pride in his job, his greatest joy in life was his family. He loved to provide for his wife and kids, and always made himself available to help friends in need. A big kid himself, he loved playing with his children. He found time to give them individual attention whether by coaching his son’s soccer team or taking his daughter to a daddy daughter dance. His children were his true pride and joy.
Chris is survived by the love of his life Robyn, who he met at 18 and has enjoyed nearly 16 years of marriage with. He was the loving father of Andrew, Brendan, Bayleigh. Beloved son of Marcelle Mathews and James (Christine) Mathews. Dear brother of Julie (Matt) Foster and Jamie (Courtney) Mathews. Dearest uncle of Colton, Ellie, Zachary, Aiden, Mackenzie, Madison, Austin and Rachel. Cherished grandson of Henry and Georgia Colton. Chris also leaves to cherish his memory many extended family members, coworkers and friends.
