Loving Mother, Grandmother (Popo), and Great Grandmother, Cora Sue Yee was born on December 21,1926 and passed away peacefully on December 28, 2018 at age 92. Cora was born in Shanghai, China and immigrated to the United States at age 3. Her father, Guy Sat Moy, was sponsored by a man whose wife's name was Cora. To honor his sponsor, he gave his first-born child the American name of Cora.
Cora was the eldest of six children. Her siblings Betty, Howard, and Frances are deceased. Her sister Dorothy lives in Michigan, and brother Edward lives in California. She is survived by daughters Judi (Charles) Glatfelter, Karen (Lawrence) Thompson, Lori (Gregory Higgins) Yee, three grandchildren, Elizabeth Sweeney, Stephanie (Ryan) Harris and Christopher (Katie) Thompson and four great-grandchildren, Dylan Sweeney, Ethan, Andrew and Cecilia Thompson.
Cora (childhood nickname Corky) grew up in Detroit's Chinatown. She married George Yee in her early 20's, and they had 3 daughters, Judi, Karen, and Lori. Divorced in her 50's, Cora was a fiercely independent, feisty woman whose love for her daughters and their spouses/partners and subsequent grandchildren and great-grandchildren extended across the country to Michigan, Oklahoma, Ohio, and California.
In the 1970's Cora settled first in Southern California, and then moved to Northern California, where she worked as an administrative assistant in the community college realm for over 30 years. After retirement she was an avid volunteer, and traveling companion/attendant to her dear friend Catherine Campisi.
A funeral will be held in Cora's honor on Tuesday, January 22, 2019, with an in state period beginning at 10am and a service at 11am, at Harry J Will Funeral Home, 37000 Six Mile Road, Livonia MI 48152.
Cora will be buried at Mount Hope Memorial Gardens in Livonia, Michigan. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the ACC Care Center in Sacramento, CA (7801 Rush River Dr., Sacramento, CA 95831) or the Alzheimer's Association (https://alzfdn.org/support-us/donate/).
