Daniel James LaPointe, a long time resident of South Redford, Michigan, passed away on September 5, 2017, at Garden City Hospital, Garden City, Michigan. Dan was born February 13, 1952, in Detroit, Michigan to the late Vivian and Art LaPointe. Growing up in South Redford, he graduated from Thurston High School in 1970. Dan met his lifelong companion Alice (Bunny) LaPointe in 1974, raising two sons and remained best friends until his death. Daniel spent his career as a sheet metal worker and a truck driver; but his true passion was video photography. Starting his own business in the early 1980’s, he was well known around the Metro Detroit area as, “Dan the Video Man” for almost 14 years. Dan later followed his heart, dreams and his love for the outdoors and moved to Roscommon, at South Higgins Lake, Michigan where he took care of his loving Mother until her passing. In 2007, he moved back to Garden City, Michigan so that he could be closer to Bunny, his family and friends. Throughout his life, Dan’s hobbies included scuba diving, traveling, reading and model airplanes.
Dan is survived by his sons, Ryan and John; granddaughter, Madysen, who was his pride and joy and his siblings Arlene, Gail (Abe), Dale (Martha), and David. Dan will be loved and missed by the many people whose lives he touched, and will always be remembered by the quote from his favorite television show, Star Trek . . . . “Live Long and Prosper”.
Visitation for Daniel will be held at Harry J. Will Funeral home in Livonia, Michigan on September 15th from 10:00 am - 12:00 pm with a memorial service immediately following. The family will host a luncheon, on-premise, after the service.
