David Terry Wallace

David Terry Wallace (“Terry”) was born to Elizabeth Allen Wallace in El Paso Texas on October 22, 1943 when his father, Henry Wallace, was in the Army. The family relocated to their native Mississippi after the war, and his parents taught in several small local school districts, especially in Kruger, where his father was the principal. He graduated from Leland High School in 1961, and enlisted in the Navy. After basic training in San Diego, he served two tours of duty in Vietnam as a Medical Corpsman. He then ran a dispensary in Japan for two years, after which he returned to the States, where he ran a dispensary outside of San Francisco. After leaving the military, he graduated summa cum laude from San Francisco State University before continuing his education at the University of Michigan. He received a Master’s degree before leaving.

He worked as a Shipping Manager at Meta Systems and Arbortext software companies in Ann Arbor for some ten years before leaving to be the primary caregiver for his daughter, He met Susan (Sue) Ahrenhold in 1987 at the Ann Arbor Alano Club and they married on April 30, 1988. Their daughter Krista Elizabeth Wallace was born on December 12, 1989. Terry worked part-time during her childhood.

The family lived in Chelsea for ten years before moving to Livonia. Both Terry and Sue were long-term cancer survivors, and they are especially grateful to the University of Michigan hospitals for Terry’s long recovery from esophageal cancer. Terry and Sue were active in the Livonia Democratic Club, where they campaigned for local, statewide and national candidates, and where they worked on the anti-gerrymandering initiative. They were active in Ann Arbor AA, where they were fortunate enough to have many wonderful friends. Terry passed away on September 25, 2026 at Trinity Health (St Marys’) from septic shock, complicated by heart issues. His loss leaves his family without their loving, supportive heart, and they will miss him forever.
