Dayle was the beloved wife of over 51 years to Matthew Mataya, a partnership filled with love, laughter, and unwavering devotion. She was a loving and proud mother to Jeffrey (Kristen Wolff) Mataya and Russell (Kyla Hamilton) Mataya, and a cherished grandmother to Simon, Caleb, Max, and Torin Mataya. She is also survived by her sister Karen (Jason Byers) Opdyke and her nephews and niece Harrison, Edward, and Daisy Byers, and sister-in-law Marilyn (Charles Farkas) Mataya.
She is reunited in peace with her parents, Edward and Daisy Opdyke, and her brothers, Richard and Jeffrey Opdyke.
Dayle was a proud graduate of the University of Michigan, earning her bachelor’s degree in Mathematics in 1972, and remaining a lifelong supporter as a member of the Michigan Alumni Association. She was also dedicated to her work, working in multiple professional accounting positions, running her own tax business, and maintaining membership with the National Association of Tax Preparers, where her knowledge and care helped so many.
Dayle embraced life with enthusiasm and a true love for the things that brought her joy. She was a devoted fan of Michigan sports, especially football and basketball, and rarely missed a game as a longtime season ticket holder. Dayle delighted in spending summers on the lake at Green Pond, NJ with her family, a special place from her childhood, where she stayed busy playing tennis, swimming, and boating. She found community socializing with neighbors during her daily walks with her beloved late dog, Chica.
She was also an avid reader who could often be found with a good book in hand. Traveling brought her great happiness, as she loved experiencing new places and making memories along the way. Above all, Dayle treasured time spent with her family, volunteering to support her children through various sports activities. Her faith was an important part of her life, and she was an active and dedicated member of First Presbyterian Church of Farmington.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11 am on May 2, 2026, at First Presbyterian Church of Farmington, 26165 Farmington Rd., Farmington Hills, MI 48334. Family and friends may gather at church from 10 am until the time of the service.
