

Dorothea (Dotsie/Dottie) was born on December 23, 1929, and passed away on January 29, 2026. She was the daughter of Peter and Sophie John and was born in Worcester, Massachusetts. She moved with her family to the Detroit area when she was 14 and completed her high school education in Detroit. After graduation, she spent many years working in her parent’s restaurant which became well known for its home style cooking. Later, she took a job at Ford Motor Company in the Tool and Die area and became a member of UAW Local 600. After she retired, she moved to Kalamazoo where she had a home built in Portage which enabled her to be near her siblings and niece.
Dottie was predeceased by her parents and brother, Louis John, and two sisters, Georgianna Libby, Helen Curtis, and nephew Brian Motter. She is survived by her two devoted nieces, Louise (Michael) Kenny of Portage, Michigan and LaVerne Motter of Livonia, Michigan. She loved being a great aunt to Michael (Amy) Kenny Jr.,
Saugatuck, Michigan; Andrew (Shana) Kenny of Arnold, Maryland; Elena (Bill) Carr of Livonia, Michigan; and Peter (Ashley) Kenny of Washington D.C. Her extended family of being a great, great aunt included Ryan (Katy) Kenny; Kyle Kenny and Lauren Eagle; Eva Kenny; Ella Kenny, Liam Kenny and Jack Kenny as well as the newest family addition of Rylee Kenny. She was also proud to be godmother to Alexis and Michael Lubonja.
She was proud of her Albanian Orthodox religion. Rest in peace Aunt Dorothy.
A Funeral Service will take place at 11:00 am on Wednesday, February 11, 2026, at the Harry J. Will Funeral Home, 37000 Six Mile Road, Livonia, Michigan 48152. Dorothea's family will receive visitors at the funeral home on Wednesday from 10:00 am until the time of the service at 11:00 am. A burial will follow at Woodmere Cemetery in Detroit.
