Edna “Marie” Kitchen passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 26, 2022, after an extended battle with Alzheimer’s disease. Marie was 83 years old, just shy of her 84th birthday when she went to Heaven.
Marie was born in Michigan City, Indiana, and moved to Detroit with her parents at the age of 5. Shortly after graduating from high school, she began attending Temple Baptist Church where she met Terry, the love of her life. Three months later, they married. Terry and Marie were married 64 years and 3 months.
Marie is survived by her loving husband, Terry, their three children, Karen (Mike) Nelson, David (Melanie) Kitchen, and Carol (Steve) Gomes, six grandchildren, Brandon (Karen’s son), Chandler, Spencer, and Maggie (David and Melanie’s children), Jeremy and Jessica (Carol and Steve’s children) and four great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother, Karl Hoffman, Jr.
Marie was a devout Christian. She loved the Lord and enjoyed serving in their church. For over 25 years, she faithfully served as the Superintendent of the 3-Year Olds Department. She loved teaching the young children about Jesus through Bible stories and songs.
Marie loved being a grandmother and enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren playing board games, card games, taking walks, and riding bikes, among other things. She also loved to scrapbook. She celebrated many family events and memories in several albums.
After retirement, Terry and Marie enjoyed traveling either with friends or by themselves. They spent several winters in Florida enjoying the beach, the sun, and watching the dolphins swim in the Gulf of Mexico. Marie loved to walk on the beach and collect seashells and shark teeth. Many of the seashells she collected are displayed at home.
She also enjoyed bowling, unless, of course, she had a bad game :) She bowled on a team with her husband and also on a women’s team with her neighbors.
Marie baked the best German Chocolate Cake EVER!!!! Often, she would be asked to bring her “famous” cake to church events with no leftovers to take home!
Friends and family are invited to pay their respects and share their memories in celebration of Marie’s life here on earth.
For those interested, lunch will be served immediately after the service. The procession to the cemetery will follow the lunch.
