Edward Ludwig Gebnar, a proud Marine, loving husband, and dedicated father and grandfather with a deep love for the open road, passed away peacefully on August 10, 2025, in Livonia, Michigan, at the age of 84.
Born on March 12, 1941, in Detroit, Michigan, Ed lived a life defined by hard work, service, and a deep devotion to his family. He proudly served four years in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War, stationed in Okinawa, Japan, and various stateside bases before being honorably discharged.
After his military service, Ed went on to build a long and successful career as a mechanical engineer. He worked for various companies contracted with General Motors and Ford, designing car components, concluding his career as a project manager. After retiring from the automotive industry, he continued to work part-time at the Livonia Rec Center. A man of boundless energy and determination, Ed never truly stopped working. Whether it was keeping things tidy, doing yardwork, fixing something in the house or garage, helping someone out, or (of course!) working on his bikes, he always stayed busy — not out of obligation, but out of purpose.
Ed was a passionate motorcycle rider, a love that lasted well into his 80s. There was nothing he enjoyed more than being out on the road on his Harley Davidson Sportster, the wind in his face, and speeding down the road! When he wasn’t riding, you could often find him in his backyard, surrounded by family and friends — telling stories, or simply enjoying the moment.
He is survived by his beloved children, Christopher Edward Gebnar and Linda Marie Jimenez; his cherished grandchildren, Esteban Jimenez, Erica Jimenez, Gabrielle Gebnar, Shane Gebnar, and Shaun Gebnar; and he was eagerly awaiting the arrival of his first great-granddaughter, Alejandra. Ed also leaves behind his dear siblings, John (Sandy) Gebnar and Frances McGuckin.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Consuelo “Connie” (Parra) Gebnar; parents, Ludwig and Mary (Frank) Gebnar; his daughter, Mary Inocencia; his sons, Robert Manuel and Roland Manuel; his sister and brother-in-law, Vicky and James King; and his brother-in-law, Brian McGuckin.
Ed's legacy is one of resilience, kindness, and a relentless spirit. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
A funeral service will take place at 1:00 pm on Saturday, August 23, 2025, at the Harry J. Will Funeral Home, 37000 Six Mile Road, Livonia, Michigan 48152. Ed’s family will receive visitors on Saturday from 11:00 am until the time of the service at 1:00 pm. In accordance with Ed’s wishes, cremation will follow.
