Elaine N. Goyer was born on November 17, 1926, in Detroit, to Marc and Leah Radoye. She grew up in a wonderful, loving home she spoke of fondly on the corner of Crocuslawn and Griggs, with her parents, sister Audrey, and brothers Marc (“Buddy”) and Robert (“Bobby”), all of whom preceded her in death.
Elaine graduated from Mackenzie High School in 1944, before working at the accounting firm Horwath & Horwath in downtown Detroit, and then Ford Parts & Service Division in Dearborn. She stopped working professionally in 1959 to focus on her true calling: becoming a full-time mom and raising and guiding her family. Sixty-five years later, she often commented on how she enjoyed her professional working years.
She met the love of her life, the late Robert (Bob) Goyer in the autumn of 1953, and had a whirlwind romance… engaged on Valentine’s Day 1954 and married that July. They enjoyed a loving and devoted 67-year marriage until Bob’s passing in 2021.
Elaine is survived by her daughter Evon (Carl) Buckley and son Todd (Sandy) Goyer. She was the loving and perfect grandmother of the late Ryan, Philip, Hope, Caitlin Elaine (Chris), and Lauren (Rafael). She also leaves behind her sister-in-law, Gloria Radoye, and several nieces and nephews.
Elaine often said, “I’ve lived a great life. We did simple things, but always good things. We always had everything we needed.” More recently, she would say, “I hope people have good memories of me.” And everyone who knew her does. She loved dining out and shopping, every chance she had. Other favorite things included family gatherings at Lake Chemung, tailgating at U of M games for 30+ years, Monday four-mile walks and a hot-fudge sundae with three dear friends, swimming at Schoolcraft College, the month of March with Bob on Florida’s gulf coast and her high-heel shoes. She loved every opportunity to be with or talk to family members or friends, and never turned down a chance to spend time with her grandchildren.
Above all, Elaine was an incredibly sweet, kind, gentle, generous, pleasant and wonderful woman… words constantly reinforced by her truly loving caregivers at Kendra’s Place (Ashley, Barbie, Crystal, Rebecca, Deanna, Chris and Kendra) who were by her side every minute since August 2021, as well as many members of the Angela Hospice team, who visited her weekly or more, always including how special and wonderful she was in their updates.
