

Elva M. Rosenzweig (Vogt). Called to her Heavenly home on May 17, 2021, age 92. Preceded in death by her husband, Frederick, brother, Robert Vogt, and great-granddaughter Jubilee. Beloved mother of Kathi (Larry) Jakubowski, Martin (Carolyn) Rosenzweig, John (Nancy) Rosenzweig and Andrew Rosenzweig (Becki Chottiner). Grandma of Heidi (Mark) Bowdich, Karl (Crystal) Rosenzweig, Franz (Emily) Rosenzweig, Lindsay (Tyler) Vandeberghe, Joseph Jakubowski (Elisabeth Metzger), Katarina (David) Samuels, Julia Rosenzweig (Justin Reynolds), Matthew (Megan) Jakubowski, Diana Rosenzweig and Aaron Rosenzweig. Great-Grandma of Molly, Karl, Aiden, Elise, Owen, Emma, George, Anna, Lyra, Esther, Vivian, Marceline, Christian and Julian. Also survived by nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
Elva was born in St. Louis, MO to Helen and Adolph Vogt, and had a lifelong love of music and the arts. She studied music and vocal education at St. John’s College, Winfield, Kansas and Concordia Teachers College, Seward, Nebraska; and received her Bachelor and Master of Arts in Music Education from the University of Michigan. She taught music and choir in Marlette and Edmore, Michigan.
She was a lifelong member of The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod. Her childhood church was Bethany Lutheran Church, St. Louis. She was a charter member of St. Luke Lutheran Church, Ann Arbor, and later a long-time member and choir director at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Royal Oak. She was most recently a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Ann Arbor.
Elva was a founding member of the University Lutheran Chapel Alumni Association and held various board offices, including president. She was a member of the Alva Gordon Sink Group, University of Michigan Alumni Association, and Michigan League Board of Governors. She had season tickets to University Musical Society concerts in Ann Arbor for nearly 30 years. She loved travel, playing bridge, knitting, needlepoint, quilting, and in later years family genealogy research. She loved bright colors! She created beautiful, colorful quilts for her family which will be treasured for years to come.
