She was born on March 13, 1940, in Rava Rus’ka, Lviv Oblast, Ukraine. Emilia spent her childhood in Ukraine and many of her adult years in Poland before eventually settling in Michigan in the 1980s. In 1984, she married the love of her life, Walter Paszkiewicz, with whom she shared many joyful years until his passing in 2016.
One of Emilia’s greatest joys was her son, Wally Cwikla, whose love, humor, and generous heart brought her endless pride and comfort. His passing was a deep loss, but his memory remained a treasured part of her life.
Emilia worked for 22 years at General Motors as an assembly line worker before retiring in 2003.
She was a woman of deep Catholic faith and a devoted member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Ukrainian Catholic Church in Dearborn Heights. Her faith was a guiding light throughout her life.
She found great joy in life’s simple pleasures—tending to her flower garden, feeding hummingbirds, and reading her favorite books.
She deeply loved her neighbors and was blessed with a close-knit community that surrounded her with kindness and care. Over the years, they shared not only small acts of help but genuine friendship, love, and support that meant the world to her.
Emilia was a truly kind and caring soul who touched the lives of many. Her warmth, generosity, and friendship left a lasting impression on all who knew her. She was the kind of person who made others feel seen, heard, and loved.
She is survived by her sister, Daria Deduk; her close friends, the Korostetskyi family; and many other dear friends whose lives she enriched. She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Paszkiewicz; her son, Wally Cwikla; her parents, Wasyl and Anna (Tuz) Nesterak; and her older sister, Anna.
Emilia’s presence will be deeply missed, and the love she shared and the memories she created will remain in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, June 2, 2025, at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Ukrainian Catholic Church, 26667 Joy Road, Dearborn Heights, Michigan 48127.
