River Rouge Michigan. Esther accepted Christ at the young age of nine, joining Tabernacle
Missionary Baptist Church under the Pastor Robert H. Pittman. She remained a devoted and
faithful member until her passing. Esther was educated within the Detroit Public School
System. Esther attended Sampson Elementary/Intermediate, Northwestern High School, she
went on to further her education at Lewis Business College where she received an Associate's
Degree.
Esther met and married Lucius Williams in 1944. To this union three children were born,
Raymond (deceased), Derrick (deceased) and Michele. Esther loved family, friends, gardening
and traveling to name some of her interests. Esther received awards for her spectacular
gardening. Esther attended all the family functions dressed to the nines, always wearing her
beloved heels. The only time you wouldn't see Esther in heel is when she was walking with her
walking group, the North Land Pacers at Northland Mall. Esther's hideaway and relaxing place
was a home in Lakes of the North in northern Michigan where some would call it a picture out
of Better Homes & Garden.
After several years of enjoying life, Esther joined the Kentucky Club with longtime friend Robert
(Bob) Jarber. The Kentucky Club was a social club where they enjoyed dancing, traveling, and
hosting events, their special friendship lasted until his death.
Esther's first job was a secretary with R. L. Polk, but she never forgot her riveter inspector job at
Hudson Motors, where her small stature allowed her to climb into the nose of airplanes during
World War I. Esther moved on to employment at Gratiot Health Center, leaving there to work
at Herman Kiefer Hospital. She retired from Detroit General Hospital (City of Detroit) after 33
years. But, not being able to sit still, Esther accepted the request to assist in the development
of Detroit Receiving Hospital's Payroll & Records Department where she was a Supervisor for
six years.
Esther was not only a mother to her three children; she was also a mother to all she knew; she
was always there to be a listening ear and to provide advice.
Esther leaves to cherish her memory her daughter Michele (Leo) Emerson, Daughter-in-law
Raynna Williams, 4 grandchildren - Raynna N. Thomas (Cory), Raymond K. (Evonne) Williams,
Derrick L. Williams, and Alycia M. Emerson. 5 great-grandchildren, 5 great-great grandchildren,
