

Eugene Fred Ficyk, age 88, passed away peacefully at his home in Northville, Michigan, on May 25, 2026. He was born on October 29, 1937, in Detroit, Michigan, to Stanley and Anastasia (Orlinnick) Ficyk.
Eugene shared a remarkable love story with his beloved wife, Barbara (Oliver) Ficyk. The two met in high school and soon began dating after attending a friend’s graduation party for their first date. They were married on June 20, 1959, and spent nearly 67 wonderful years together building a life centered on love, family, and devotion.
He is lovingly remembered by his wife, Barbara; his children, Laura (Joel) Santella, Paula Ficyk, and Eugene John Ficyk; and his cherished grandchildren, Marco, Sawyer, Oliver, Henry, Xanthe, and Lula. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and extended family members who will miss him dearly.
Eugene was preceded in death by his parents, Stanley and Anastasia Ficyk; his brother, William Ficyk; and his daughter-in-law, Michelle Ficyk.
During his senior year of high school, Eugene joined the United States National Guard, proudly serving from 1958 to 1961. Following his military service, he attended the University of Michigan–Dearborn, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering. While attending college, he participated in a co-op program with Ford Motor Company, beginning what would become a distinguished 35-year career as a mechanical engineer with Ford until his retirement in 1995.
Eugene had a lifelong appreciation for movies and music and especially enjoyed traveling. Some of his favorite adventures included trips to Italy, Panama, the Bahamas, and an Alaskan cruise, as well as traveling throughout the American West. One of his most memorable experiences was a 1961 trip to the USSR with a Ukrainian dance troupe from Dearborn. He was an avid tennis player and particularly enjoyed matches with his longtime friend, Richard Haracz. Above all else, Eugene treasured time spent with his family, creating lasting memories with those he loved most.
He will be remembered for his quiet strength, dedication to his family, persistent use of clever puns, and the enduring love he shared with all who knew him.
In accordance with Eugene’s wishes, cremation will take place. A Memorial Service will take place at 2:00 pm on Friday, June 19, 2026, at the Harry J. Will Funeral Home, 37000 Six Mile Road, Livonia, Michigan 48152. Eugene’s family will receive visitors at the funeral home from 11:00 am until the time of the service at 2:00 pm.
