Tere, When all this began I was having computer problems which now appear to have subsided.  I now wish to compliment all concerned with the compilation of this remarkable eulogy. This eulogy is from Frances' grandchildren - Carly, Ryan, Corey, Andrea, Marisa, Francesca and little Vico, who all loved and respected you more than any words can ever say. What Francesca, Andrea and Marisa have written from their hearts echoes each grandchild's feelings for their beautiful grandmother. Francesca begins with a lyric made famous by Frank Sinatra, a favorite singer of Mrs. Carpinelli.
Strangers in the night 
Two lonely people, we were strangers in the night 
Up to the moment when we said our first hello, little did we know 
Love was just a glance away, a warm embracing dance away
This was my grandmother's favorite song; every time I listen to it I can see her and Grandpa dancing all night, as if I were there too.
This song reminds me of the story my mom has often told to me about when I was born, how Grandma and Grandpa took a plane and came to Mexico to meet me. Mom said that grandma held me in her arms and cried. Little did I know she was going to change my life forever. 
My grandmother was the best woman I've ever met. She was full of love and was so beautiful. To me and my family, she was more than perfect.  We will never forget all the things she told us, all the food she cooked for us, and the times she took our breath away by walking out her bedroom all dressed up like she was a movie star. I fell in love with her again every minute of every day that I spent with her.
Living far away from her was always difficult for me. Seeing her only two weeks a year was torture. But, she always made sure that I knew how much she loved me, even though we were separated by thousands of miles.
I thank my entire family for taking care of her, for loving her and for making her happy. I especially thank my grandfather for making her smile everyday and for always being by her side.
Thanks to my grandmother, I know how being loved feels, and I know the kind of woman, mother, and wife that I want to be. I know my cousins feel this way too. 
Thanks Grandma for always being there, for always telling me you love me, for your three-hour hugs, and your delicious food. Thank you for your smile. Thank you for being my grandmother.
Andrea understandably struggled with writing something  about her grandmother, because it was difficult finding words that would do justice for such a beautiful person.
 Grandma was a very important person in my life. She encouraged me, believed in me, spent time making meals for me, and attended all of my piano recitals, school plays, birthdays and graduations. She was a beautiful person.
She had a grace that is hard to describe. Grandma held herself to the highest standards, yet she never judged others. She expected much of people, but never made one feel that she was disappointed when one's decisions, or life, didn't turn out the way anyone expected.
I can never recall her saying a bad a word about anyone. Grandma had unwavering faith and truly lived and practiced what she believed although she never preached. When I think about Jesus's teachings, I think about her, because in my eyes she was living them. Grandma was so full of love and goodness that everyone around her felt touched by it. I wish I could have her with me my whole life and never have to say goodbye.
My only consolation is that Grandma is in my heart and will be there forever. When I feel overwhelmed by my grief over her death, I am reminded of something she told me often. Grandma said that when her own mother died in June 1984 she felt more pain and heartache then she had ever known. It was almost too much to bear, but Grandma still has faith in God. Then, the very next month in July I was born, and she felt that God had given her the biggest blessing---the first grandchild that she had been waiting for and wanting so much.
As much as I already miss Grandma, and know I always will, I am so grateful that she was my grandma. She will be with me, and our whole family, in spirit for all of our joys and blessings to come.
And now, Marissa shares her warm and loving memories.
Grandma Fran was a one-in-a-million kind of person. She was gentle and kind, but opinionated and strong. I always admired her unwavering convictions. She lived her faith every day, treating people with kindness and committing herself to helping the poor. Listening to her tell stories about growing up poor, I could see that she never lost sight of what it was like to go without. I loved the stories Grandma and Grandpa would tell about their work securing food, clothing, and shelter for needy families. I admired the way Grandma talked about those whom they had helped, never blaming them for needing a helping hand.
When we were little we would SO look forward to sleepovers with Grandma and Grandpa: sugary cereal, endless mostaccioli and meatballs, dollar store shopping sprees, and Nick-at-Nite marathons of I Love Lucy and Bewitched snuggled up on the couch next to her. 
She taught me the importance of family and, of course, good food! When I was in high school I decided I wanted to learn to cook her mostaccioli and meatballs. So, we spent a day cooking while I took meticulous notes. Of course, her measurements were not by "cups" or "tablespoons" but instead a "good amount of garlic" here and a "handful" of parsley there. I think of her every time I cook her delicious food and am grateful that her recipes have been passed down.
I will miss her dearly and will think of her with love and appreciation every time my family is gathered together around the table.

Eulogy from Frances' daughter Anita:
It is with sadness that I stand here today to thank you for coming but not to grieve, rather in a bittersweet way, to rejoice that our mother was truly blessed 
Blessed, by loving parents, Maria and Vincenzo Vettese, who brought her into the New World on June 20, 1924 and taught her, above all else, famiglia e prima, or family comes first.
Blessed ,with a big sister, Lena, and several older brothers, who looked after her when as a young child she battled and recovered from a case of diphtheria.
Blessed ,with a profound inner and outer beauty, svelte figure, and flair for fashion that never faded or went out of style.
Blessed ,with a honey of a husband, Louis Carpinelli, who doted on his honey and enjoyed wedded bliss with her for over 64 years.
Blessed ,with five healthy children, Theresa and myself, and three handsome sons, Louie, Al, and Michael and their beautiful wives, Pam, Carol, and Sandi.
Blessed,with extraordinary culinary skills, notable for her hand made gnocchis, meatballs and tomato sauce, escarole and beans, pizzelles and other Italian specialties
Blessed, with a green thumb for the most fragrant flowers and herbs, roses and peonies, and a garden that was a sanctuary for birds, her favorite, the hummingbird.
Blessed ,with the joy brought to her by seven awesome grandchildren, ranging in age from 3 to 32 years old, andrea, marisa, carly, corey, ryan, francesca, and vico as well as one great grandchild, in every sense of the word, Noah.
Blessed, by her life-long friendship with five special young women who bonded as teens and over the decades referred to themselves as the silverettes.
Blessed, by numerous good friends and neighbors from different times and places, including santa maria, st Hilary and st Williams parishes.
Blessed, with her steadfast belief in her catholic faith and her good works as a volunteer and member of the ave  maria circle and the st Vincent depaul society.
Blessed ,in her final years by the devotion and affection showered on her by our pseudo-sibliings, cousin Carmen and buddy Jimmy dog.
Blessed, with an enlarged heart, causing her to embrace everyone as family, but according to one medical report, also prolonging and complicating her recovery from a broken femur last year.
Blessed to have had her loved ones at her side to say good bye as she took her last breaths in her sleep and went to heaven on Thursday August 16.
Our mother was truly blessed, as we were, to be able to call her our Mom.

Eulogy from Frances' children:

When my mom was about 8 years old during the depression, her dad was weaving straw baskets and selling them on the streets of Detroit in the winter to support his family. One day he brought home a little doll for her. This showed her somebody loved her by really giving of themselves. She never forgot this and it shaped who she became. She was selfless in supporting her husband, children, grandchildren, our friends and even the needy in the community for 20 years.
She made sure we had our chores when we were young. We learned the value of work, gained confidence in trying new things, valued working together and we took pride in our work. By 12 years old I was making the family salads and the dressing !               
Another important part of her life was her faith and it was the basis for all other aspects of her life. I know she felt she was serving the Lord by serving others. That faith was the foundation of her marriage and her commitment to the marriage where they would find a way together through all the challenges. For example, the 60s was a time of war, race riots, sex, drugs and rock and roll - that was a fine time to have 3 teenagers, yet they stayed strong through it all  together. When my buddies and I were getting too wild, well I got grounded,,, AGAIN. Tough love they call it.
My mom was also very respectful all of God's creatures big and small. She loved her flowers and birds and had 4 bird feeders. Mom was very respectful of my Dad's hard work. She was a good steward of our limited assets. We had our own garden and flowers, we would pick dandelions for salad, make our own lunches, use S&H green stamps and coupons. She once bought a new dress at K-mart and added some sequence and lace and to make it look classy. Mom would take me to the Ave Maria rummage sales and now I'm queen of the Brooklyn thrift shops. Like Mom I can look like a million for far less.  
With 5 kids to raise, my Mom couldn't commit time to cub scouts so instead she bought me model cars to build. Education and growing intellectually was important to her. Now I'm an engineer.  She's supported our every endeavor, regardless of the direction it was going so long as it was good.
I didn't understand when I was moving my things to college, which was a good choice, and I looked back to find my mom crying. And now I cry that she's gone to a better place and I finally understand - the love of a mother, letting go, and not being able to hug you enough.
Regardless of who we became, which direction we went in life, she showed true unconditional love. We can only hope to be the wonderful person she was - a genuine, loving, lady of grace.  I am a banker and thrift shopper, I'm an engineer, I'm a meticulous housekeeper, I'm a software salesman and all about family, I'm a research biologist and a birdwatcher, I'm an editor and a mother. She left her mark on all of us. We always looked to her for boundaries, guidance, wisdom and love.  We love you, we'll miss you and now we just have to look up - so much higher.

So sorry for your loss.  We will keep you in our thought and prayers during this difficult time.

First off, my heartfelt condolences to the Carpinelli family. She will be missed.
Growing up across the street from Mrs. Carpinelli (I never have been able to call her Fran) she was my other momon Chatham Avenue. I have known the Carpinelli's for as long as I have been alive, and Mrs. Carpinelli as one of the kindest people I have ever had the pleasure to know. She raised five great kids. She invited me to have dinner with them, and many nights I would have my first supper at the Carpinelli's and then head home for my second dinner! (Sorry Mom but Mrs. Carpinelli put out some great chow!)

I wish all the Carpinelli family peace in this difficult time.

I first met her in 1969 through her son Louie, a new MSU classmate (and still a friend today). I will always recall her sparkling eyes and easy smile. May she rest in peace.
