Gary was the devoted father of Ericka (Marvin Jolly) Kocian and shared an especially close and cherished bond with his daughter. The love they had for one another was evident in everything they did together. He was also the proud Papa of Xoee Kitchen and Lincoln Kocian, who brought immeasurable joy to his life. He treasured every laugh, hug, and moment they shared, and the memories they created together will be cherished forever.
He was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Frank and Leona Kocian.
One of Gary's greatest accomplishments was owning his own barber shop, where he dedicated many years to serving his community. He was much more than a barber. He was a trusted friend, a familiar face, and someone people looked forward to seeing. The conversations shared in his chair often turned customers into lifelong friends, and those relationships meant the world to him. Gary genuinely cared about people, took pride in helping others look and feel their best, and was always known for his polished appearance.
Gary also had a lifelong passion for automobiles. He was an active member of the American Motors Owners Association, the Great Lakes Classic Car AMC Club, and the Motor City Viper Owners. He proudly owned eight collector cars and earned numerous local and national awards for his beautifully restored 1968 AMC AMX. He found great joy in sharing his passion with fellow enthusiasts and built many wonderful friendships through the car community.
Above all else, Gary will be remembered for the love he gave so freely, the friendships he nurtured over the years, and the kindness he showed to everyone he met. His legacy lives on in the family he adored, the countless lives he touched, and the many memories that will forever bring smiles to those who knew and loved him.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Gary's life during a visitation on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Harry J. Will Funeral Home, 37000 Six Mile Road, Livonia, Michigan 48152. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, at 11:00 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association in Gary's memory, honoring a cause that was especially close to his heart.
Gary will be dearly missed by all whose lives were touched by his kindness, friendship, and warm heart.
