George J. Vella

George J. Vella was born on February 1, 1928 in Detroit, Michigan. He was the oldest child of the late Pacific and Elizabeth Vella. George passed away on June 5, 2016 in Northville, Michigan at the age of 88.

Born and raised in Metro Detroit, George enlisted in the US Navy following High School before being honorably discharged in 1947. Following the Navy George returned to Metro Detroit and earned his Associate’s degree. He worked for a few different companies while earning his Bachelor’s Degree from Wayne State University before working at Chrysler where he was an Engineering Supervisor. George retired from Chrysler after over 20 years of being a faithful and dedicated employee.

In his free time George loved being outside and on the water. A member of the Ford yacht club he was an avid sailor he enjoyed taking friends and family out on his sail boat, first the Yomi then the Dolphin. When he wasn’t out on the water George could often be found tinkering in his machine shop.

George is survived by his dear siblings Mary Debrincat, Carrie (Bill) Fitzgerald and Frank (Linda) Vella and many loving nieces and nephews.

George’s life will be celebrated with a Funeral Mass on Thursday June 9, 2016 at 7 pm, with in state 5:30 pm, at St. Kenneth Catholic Church, 14951 N Haggerty Rd. (south of Five Mile Rd) in Plymouth.

He will be laid to rest privately at Holy Sepulchre Catholic Cemetery in Southfield, Michigan.
