Gerard Patrick Byrne was born on January 16, 1942 in Dublin, Ireland to the late Myles and Molly Byrne. At the age of 7, Gerry immigrated to the United States with his parents. Passing first through Ellis Island, they settled in Detroit. Gerry attended St. Cecilia High School in Detroit, graduating with the class of 1961.
Following High School Gerard served in the US Navy where he served honorably for over 4 years, including fighting for his country during the Vietnam War. After his service, he returned to Detroit and together with his wife Peggy, raised his two beloved daughters.
A kind, and loving man, Gerry was also known to be a bit of a character. Relaxing outside at home with a beverage in hand was a preferred way for Gerry to spend a nice afternoon. It went well with his passion for old cars and music. Above all else Gerry loved and adored his family.
Gerard was the cherished husband of Peggy (née Maher) for 52 years. Loving father of Colleen (Tony) Thurlow and Kristy (Scott) Patterson. Proud grandfather of Delanie and Kennedy Thurlow and Cole and Lissie Patterson. Dear brother of Bill Byrne, Margaret (Larry) Rennie and Brian Byrne.
His family will receive friends for visitation on Monday September 4, 2017 from 3-8 pm at the Harry J. Will Funeral Home, 37000 Six Mile Rd. (east of Newburgh and I-275) in Livonia.
