Born in Jerusalem, Palestine November 5, 1929, Hala was the daughter of Ibrahim and Adla Khoury. She was one of eight children of four girls and four boys. Raising a family in Ramallah, Palestine and Damascus, Syria before emigrating to the Detroit area gave Hala a window into new worlds to experience. With determination and fortitude, Hala worked her way to becoming the Business Administrator for Madison Community Hospital. Hala also found time to be an activist in the local and national Ramallah community, becoming the executive editor of Hathihe Ramallah Magazine. Hala received numerous awards for her work with local organizations including many beyond her close-nit Ramallah community, all the while making quality time for her family and friends.
Hala’s compassion, tenderness and kindness were trademarks of her character. She has helped, inspired, and elevated the spirit of so many individuals in her 92 years of life. Family, friends and strangers alike have been the recipients of her wisdom and knowledge of so many of life’s essentials. Hala is loved, respected and admired for her honesty and integrity.
