

Hanneh Ahwal was born on Christmas Day in 1935 in her beloved city of Yaffa. Her life was shaped by family, hard work, strength, resilience, and unwavering faith. She was a gentle force of nature—strong yet tender, meeting life’s challenges with quiet determination, and never allowing anything to stand in the way of her love for her family.
She was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Jabra Ahwal; her parents, Tahboob and Farida Martha; her brothers, Ibrahim and Joseph; and her sister, Samira Martha.
Hanneh is survived by her loving children: Ghada (the late Salman) Awamrin; Terry Ahwal (Bob Morris); Stella (Samir) Owaimrein); Sylvia (Simon) Bahbah; Esperance (Larry) Dawson; Julie Ahwal; Michael (Laura) Ahwal; and Maggie (Ali) Kaafarani.
She is also survived by her siblings: Salma (the late Munir) Awaimrin; Issa (the late Josephine); Nawal Qassis; and her sister-in-law, Rozette Martha.
Hanneh’s legacy lives on through her cherished grandchildren—Fares (Rachel) Awaimrin, John(Melissa) Awaimrin, Patrick Awaimrin, and Pauline(Joseph) Hinkle; Shady, Deanna, and Anthony(Kendra) Owaimrein; Hanneh (William) Alcaraz Andrea Bahbah; Anthony and Steven (Judy)Dawson ; Mirna (Ahmed) Elayyan; Tarek (Areej) Kaafarani; Firas (Sarah) Kaafarani; and Mohamad Kaafarani—as well as her many beloved great-grandchildren.
Hanneh, alongside her husband, began a new life in Livonia and remained devoted to raising and educating her children. She instilled in them the values of perseverance, dignity, and compassion. She worked tirelessly to support her family, always placing their needs above her own, and giving of herself with quiet generosity.
A woman of deep faith, Hanneh was a devout Catholic who also held a special love for St. Mary Antiochian Orthodox Church. She gave generously of her time, volunteering within her church community and extending kindness and warmth to all who knew lived with grace, dignity, and purpose. She instilled in her children the enduring power of generosity, resilience, and kindness—gifts that will continue to guide generations to come.
Hanneh Ahwal will be deeply missed and forever remembered for her strength, her gentle spirit, and her boundless love for her family.
Hanneh's family will receive visitors on Thursday, April 23, 2026, at the Harry J. Will Funeral Home from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm, with a Trisagion service taking place at 7:30 pm. A Funeral Service will take place at 11:00 am on Friday, April 24, 2026, at the St Mary Antiochian Orthodox Basilica, 18200 Merriman Rd, Livonia, MI 48152, with an hour of gathering time from 10:00 am until 11:00 am. A private burial will take place at Parkview Memorial Cemetery in Livonia.
