Ivis Geraldine Carlson

May 27, 1921January 11, 2021

Ivis Geraldine Carlson went home to the Lord on January 11, 2021 after 99 years and 7 months of a full life. Beloved wife of Loren until his death in 1992. Loving mother of Dennis Carlson and Kim [Pamela] Carlson. Cherished grandmother of Kelly [Ryan] Lindman, Geoffrey [Shelly] Carlson, Melanie [Daniel] Reynolds, Shara [Mark] Blegen, and great grandmother of 13. Dear sister of the late Wallace Larson.

Born May 27, 1921 in Bay City, Ivis moved to the “East Side” of Detroit at a young age and lived her whole life in the metro area. A graduate of Denby High School, she spent a brief time at Wayne State before accepting a scholarship to her beloved Olivet college, from which she graduated magna cum laude in 1943 majoring in music. She taught school in Detroit for a time before dedicating herself to raising her 2 sons.

Music was her life. She studied voice, and piano with renowned instructors and was an accomplished singer, pianist, and organist. A cherished family memory is watching her play Clair de Lune on her piano at Westlake Health Campus at the age of 97. Pretty special.

Ivis loved her family and was blessed with wonderful grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was ready for heaven for a long time and we feel joy knowing she is now in a great choir in heaven.

A Memorial service may be held at a later post-Covid date. Memorial contributions are appreciated in lieu of flowers to Faith Covenant Church, 35415 W 14 Mile, Farmington Hills MI 48331

I met Ivis for the first time within my first 60 days as the new president at Olivet College. She was a real joy to know and set the bar for the many alumni I'd meet over the years. It was inspiring to observe her enthusiasm and love of Olivet College that endured for so many years. She was special and will be greatly missed.

Many blessings to all who knew her, in particular her loving family.
