James was born to the late Robert and Florence (Vaughn) Benoit on March 5, 1947. He graduated from East Detroit High School with the Class of 1965. James enlisted in the United States Army in 1973 as a Traffic Management Coordinator and spent many years in logistics management for the Army until he was medically retired in 1987. Over the years, James emphasized the significance of education, religion, and hard work and instilled these values in his children.
In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by his son, David Paul, and brother, Keith Benoit (survived by widow Sharon), brother-in-law James (Nancy) Appleton.
Survivors include his brothers; Robert (Eileen) Benoit, Kenneth (Joan) Benoit, sister; Nancy (Benoit) Appleton, daughters, Tammy (Jeff) Atkins, Michelle (Roy) Meloche, Lisa (Jason) May, and sons Douglas Benoit and Matthew (Amanda) Benoit, grandchildren; Brenna and Trevor Atkins, Roy, Lucas, Lily, and Mila Meloche, and Aiden, David, and Holly Benoit; many nieces, nephews, and friends.
A rosary for James will be held Thursday, February 25, 2021 at 10:00 AM at St. Anne's Church, 38100 Five Mile Rd, Livonia, MI with a funeral mass at 11:00 AM, 38100 Five Mile Rd, Livonia, MI. James will be laid to rest Friday, February 26, 2021 at 1:30pm at Fort Custer National Cemetery, 15501 Dickman Road, Augusta, Michigan 49012.
