

James passed away peacefully in his Plymouth, Michigan home under the gentle care of his family and St. Joseph Mercy Hospice, on April 8, 2020 at the age of 63.
James was the beloved husband and best friend of Deborah for almost 37 years. Loving father of Angela (Steve) Pitts and Michael (Mark Cantrell) Schommer. Proud grandpa of Emerson James Pitts. Dear brother of Donald (Barb) Schommer, Carol Schommer, Diane (Glenn) Cleghorn, and the late Marian Shommer. Uncle of five and great-uncle of seven nieces and nephews. He will also be missed by his loyal companion, Callie Mae his chocolate lab.
James worked as a successful software engineer for over 20 years. He was also a long time member and Trustee of the Plymouth - Ann Arbor Elks Lodge #325. Jim's love and passions were his family, music, nature, and his dogs.
Jim was known for saying; "Of all the path's you take in life, make sure a few of them are dirt." He showed his family and friends some of those dirt roads in his love of nature, camping and hiking.
He will be remembered for his friendly smile, his kindness to all, and his love for family and friends.
