Jay is survived by his soulmate, Connie Curtis, whose love and companionship brought him great joy throughout his life. He was the cherished brother of John (Michelle) VanDenBeurgeury and beloved uncle of John, Brennan, and Jack VanDenBeurgeury. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Patricia (Chackman) VanDenBeurgeury.
Jay’s passion for his work as an OSHA compliance engineer was a defining part of his life. He was dedicated to helping provide safety measures for the employees and companies he worked for over many years in the automotive tier supplier industry. He also provided crucial support for these same employees during the COVID-19 pandemic. Jay held a deep appreciation for his colleagues, both those he worked with daily and the many people he met throughout his career. His commitment to his work was a testament to his integrity, compassion, and desire to make the world a safer place.
Outside of work, Jay was an avid sports enthusiast. He had a lifelong love for hockey, both as a player and a coach, and his enthusiasm for the sport was contagious and impactful. Evidence of this is displayed in the young athlete's lives he touched who are now raising families of their own, having careers, and some are now giving back as coaches themselves to the hockey community. He also enjoyed watching football and baseball, especially his beloved Michigan Wolverines and was a true sports fan at heart.
Jay had a deep affection for animals, and his love for them was evident in his relationships with Connie’s dog Yogi, his brother’s golden retrievers Ember and River, his beloved black cat Probie and the many pets he had over the years. He found comfort and companionship in their presence and treated them like family.
Traveling was another great passion of Jay's. He reveled in beach destinations, often visiting places like Mexico and California. One of his most cherished memories was a recent trip to Hawaii with Connie, where they made lasting memories together. Jay also loved exploring the beauty of northern Michigan and the west coast, always seeking new adventures and experiences along the way.
A man of deep kindness, humor, and warmth, Jay’s memory will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate to know him. His legacy of love, dedication, and adventure will continue to inspire those whose lives he touched.
