Joan Barbara (Leszczynski) Newman died on 8/21/23. She was 96 years old. Joan was married to Edward M. Newman, prominent Detroit architect, until his passing in April of 2002. She is survived by her children Candice Waranowicz (Mark), Leslie Margeson (Ken) and Jon Newman (Donna) and grandchildren Janine Waranowicz, Rachel Waranowicz, Ryan Newman and Kyle Margeson.
Joan went to Grade school and High school in Grosse Pointe, graduated from University of Michigan where she studied to be a concert pianist as well as Elementary Education. She received her Masters in Education from Wayne State University. Joan taught elementary school in Detroit for many years.
Joan and Ed built a home on Lone Pine Road in Bloomfield Hills, in the late 1950s, where Joan lived until May 2020. Joan will be remembered for her love of family, fine music, entertaining, gardening and duplicate bridge.
