John Robert Slusarski, age 71, passed away peacefully on September 1, 2026. He was born on February 6, 1955, in Blue Island, Illinois, to Robert Slusarski and Irene (Puttkammer) Slusarski, both of whom preceded him in death.
John married Maureen in 1978, and together they built a family and shared many years of life together. Though their lives later took separate paths, Maureen remained a source of support throughout John’s declining health, helping him through countless appointments and challenges.
John was the devoted father of Rebecca (Benjamin) Rosenberg and Bradley (Melissa) Slusarski, and the proud grandfather of Jacob, Jonah, and Kinley. He is also survived by his sisters, Janet, Joyce, and Judie (Glenn), and his brothers, Jerry (Jody) and Rob. He was preceded in death by his brother Jeff and brother-in-law Cecil.
During John’s declining health, his siblings were also a steady source of support, helping with his care and being there for him through many difficult moments.
John spent much of his career with Action Distributing for Miller Brewing and was known for being a hard worker. That same work ethic followed him home, whether at his house in Livonia or at his favorite place, his home on the water in Gladwin. He liked staying busy, taking care of the houses and yards, improving things, and always having something to work on.
John enjoyed sports and remained a loyal Chicago Bears, Detroit Tigers, and Michigan fan through the years. He was also a longtime NASCAR fan, especially of Rusty Wallace and the No. 2 Miller Lite car. Even as his health declined, those longtime interests remained part of who he was.
More than anywhere else, John loved being at his house in Gladwin. He loved the water, the boat, bonfires, and the simple pleasure of being there with family. Many of the memories his family will hold closest were made there.
The last several years of John’s life were marked by significant health challenges that gradually changed what he was able to do. But those years never erased the man his family knew and loved.
Above all, John will be remembered as a beloved father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. After a long and difficult journey, his family takes comfort in knowing he is finally at peace.
A Memorial Gathering will be held at Harry J Will Funeral Homes, 37000 W. Six Mile Road, Livonia, Michigan 48152, on September 9, 2026, from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm, with a Rosary at 7:00 pm.
A Memorial Gathering will take place at St Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, 11441 Hubbard, Livonia, Michigan 48150, on September 10, 2026, from 10:00 am to 10:30 am, followed by a Memorial Mass at 10:30 am.
