Joyce L. Kasper
February 12, 1941 – October 4, 2020
Joyce Kasper, age 79, of Livonia, Michigan passed away on Sunday, October 4, 2020.
Joyce was born February 12, 1941 in Detroit, Michigan. She was baptized at St. Francis of Assisi Parish in March, 1941 in Detroit and attended grade school at Assumption BVM in Detroit, and then went on to Western High School, also in Detroit. Joyce married her husband Anthony on February 17, 1962 at Assumption BVM and have been married for 58 wonderful years. Later, they moved to Livonia, Michigan in 1966 and had their two sons, Timothy and Thomas.
Joyce is survived by her beloved husband, Anthony Kasper; her sons, Timothy (Gina) Kasper and Thomas (Allison) Kasper; and grandchildren, Ashley and Andrew.
Joyce loved her family. Family was everything to her and she cherished being a mother and grandmother. She was always very involved in her sons lives and was always volunteering, helping as a room mother for both her sons at their grade schools, as a Cub Scout Den mother, and as an organizer of various school events and activities. Later, she spent over three years taking care of her granddaughter when she was little and has always been a significant part of her granddaughters and grandsons lives. She attended all their school activities at St. Edith and later their sporting events at Stevenson H.S. She also spent a lot of time with her family - traveling, showing her grandchildren and her daughter-in-laws how to make our traditional holiday foods in the kitchen, and with small things like putting wreaths together for her grandsons Boy Scout holiday fundraiser. No matter how busy she was, she always made time for family, and was always there when she was needed.
Joyce took after her fathers green thumb and was an avid gardener. She loved raising and tending to her flowers and vegetable gardens and loved being outdoors.
Joyce also loved to cook and feed her family. She had a large collection of cookbooks, and was always seeking out new recipes from the Food Network and other sources. She was constantly baking and cooking, bringing the whole family together many times per month for one of her wonderful home cooked meals, usually ending with a fresh baked dessert.
Joyce carried on our Polish and religious holiday traditions and, such as making Perogi and mushroom soup for Christmas Eve, passing of the Oplatki around before Christmas dinner, and attending blessing of the baskets every year at St. Colette with her grandchildren and daughter-in-law.
Joyce was also very crafty and was an accomplished seamstress and loved ceramics and other crafts. Joyce made all her sons costumes and made all the Christmas stockings, and many of our cherished ornaments and holiday decorations.
Joyce loved music and loved playing the organ and the keyboard. She loved all kinds of music, and along with her husband, passed their appreciation of music down to their sons and grandchildren.
Joyce truly made her house the family home. She loved decorating for the holidays, and worked very hard to make our home a warm and welcoming place.
