June Carol Lavoie, 86, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, October 15, 2026, 9 years, 6 months, and 25 days after her husband and love of her life, Roger Leo Lavoie. June was born June 14, 1940, to Hilda and John DiTommaso of Haverhill, Massachusetts. She is survived by her and Roger’s children, Nanine Cvengros (husband Steve and granddaughter Madison), Kristen Lavoie, and Daniel Lavoie (wife Emma, grandson Luca and granddaughter Nina). June is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
June grew up in Massachusetts, where she attended grammar school in Haverhill, and graduated from Haverhill High School in 1958. After high school, June attended Merrimack College in North Andover for two years, earning an Associate’s Degree. In 1960, she was hired as an executive technical secretary at Mitre Corporation in Bedford. In December 1961, June met Roger, the love of her life, through mutual friends at a gathering in Hampton Beach, New Hampshire. At the time, Roger was in the Air Force, stationed at Otis Air Force Base on Cape Cod. After Roger was reassigned to Saigon, Vietnam, in March 1962, they reunited in March 1963 when he returned home. In September 1963, Roger started working for Lorillard Tobacco and became a night student at Merrimack College. They married on October 12, 1964, and settled in Haverhill. Roger was honorably discharged from the Air Force in September 1965 after his 2-year reservist obligation. That same year, June left her job at Mitre and became a homemaker when they started their family. They had three children by the time Roger graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration in May 1974. Roger’s career progression led the family to relocate to Minnesota, New Jersey, and finally to Michigan, where they settled in Livonia in March 1977. Roger was fortunate to retire at age 56 in May 1996. After enjoying 20 years of retired life together, Roger sadly passed away in March 2017.
June, along with Roger before his passing, was an active member of St. Colette Catholic Church in Livonia. At St. Colette, June was a long-time board member of the Women’s Guild, which led her to serve and support multiple committees and church-related activities. June was an avid gardener, and greatly enjoyed working in her yard, especially on her flowers and the lawn that Roger had long nurtured. June was a kind, loving, and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, friend, and neighbor. She was a loyal and respected friend to many, and will forever be known by everyone as a patient, kind, empathetic, positive, active, and happy person. The lives she touched are innumerable, and she will be missed by those who had the privilege to know her.
June’s family will receive friends for visitation on Friday, October 23, 2026, from 4-8 pm at Harry J. Will Funeral Home, 37000 Six Mile Road in Livonia (east of Newburgh and I-275). A brief scripture service will be held at 7 pm on Friday evening. On Saturday, October 24, 2026, she will lie in state from 9-10 am at St. Colette Catholic Church, 17600 Newburgh Road in Livonia (north of Six Mile Rd), with a Funeral Mass to follow at 10 am. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in loving memory of June to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
