

Katherine lived a life defined by dedication, hard work, and a deep love for animals. Through her work with the United States Navy, she met the love of her life, Kenneth Lucy. Their friendship grew into a lasting partnership, and they were united in marriage on June 27, 1980. Together they shared many years of love, companionship, and cherished memories.
A passionate animal lover, Katherine devoted much of her life to caring for dogs. She owned and operated a dog boarding kennel, where she provided exceptional care for countless animals over the years. She was especially known for her love of Great Danes and became a respected breeder and exhibitor of the breed. Her knowledge, dedication, and enthusiasm earned her the admiration of fellow dog enthusiasts and the gratitude of many pet owners.
Katherine is survived by her beloved husband, Kenneth Lucy; her brothers, Jon Kwas and Chris Kwas; and her special friend, Shirley Struble. She also leaves behind many friends and fellow dog lovers whose lives were enriched by her kindness, expertise, and friendship.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Alethea Kwas, and four siblings: Mike Kwas, Zoe Jennings, Steve Kwas, and Becky Kwas.
Katherine will be remembered for her unwavering devotion to animals, her strong work ethic, and the warmth she shared with those fortunate enough to know her. Her legacy lives on in the many lives she touched, both human and canine, and she will be deeply missed by all who loved her.
In keeping with her generous and practical nature, Katherine chose to make a final gift to others through anatomical donation to the University of Michigan Medical School in Ann Arbor. No public memorial services have been scheduled at this time.
