

Born on November 11, 1938, to Leo and Loretta Audrey Grace, Kathleen grew up in Detroit, where she laid the foundation for a lifetime of service and learning. She graduated from St. Mary’s of Redford High School and went on to follow her true calling at Mount Carmel Mercy School of Nursing, earning her credentials as a registered nurse. Her passion for her profession led her to Madonna University, where she proudly completed her Bachelor of Science in Nursing.
Kathleen spent over 45 years dedicating her heart and hands to the care of others. Her diverse and fulfilling career spanned various hospitals and roles, culminating in her deeply meaningful work as a school nurse for Wayne Westland Schools. There, she provided tender care and advocacy for medically fragile students. Known for her tireless work ethic, sharp intellect, and quick wit, Kathleen earned the profound respect and admiration of colleagues and patients alike.
For 52 years, Kathleen was a proud and active resident of Livonia, a community she enriched with her warmth and where she cultivated countless lifelong friendships. Her faith was the cornerstone of her life. As a devoted parishioner at St. Michael the Archangel Parish, she lifted her voice and her spirit as a longtime member of the church choir.
Above all, Kathleen’s greatest joy was her family. She was the loving mother of Martha (Brian) Ptashnik and the fiercely proud and adoring grandmother—affectionately crowned “Gigi”—to David (Claire) Ptashnik and Kathleen (Brianna) Ptashnik. Her legacy of love, her famously funny stories, her radiant smile, and her unwavering devotion to those she held dear will be forever woven into the hearts of her family.
In addition to her daughter and grandchildren, Kathleen leaves behind a beautiful circle of family who loved her dearly. She is survived by her devoted sisters: Judy (James) Kronk, Janet (Michael) McGivney, Beverly Blake, Marianne (Michael) Farkas, and her sister-in-law, Patricia Grace
She is also survived and celebrated by a host of loving nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
Kathleen was reunited in eternity with her beloved parents; her brothers, Robert Grace and Thomas Grace; her sisters-in-law, Marcia Grace and Corrine Grace; and her brother-in-law, Joseph Blake
A celebration of Kathleen’s life and faith will be held on Saturday, July 25. An in state will be held from 9:30 am to 10:30 am, followed by a memorial mass beginning at 10:30 am at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, 11411 Hubbard Rd, Livonia, MI 48150.
Kathleen will be laid to rest at Parkview Memorial Cemetery. Her bright spirit, humor, and boundless grace will never be forgotten.
