Lawrence was the beloved husband of Cecelia Coffey, with whom he shared over 56 wonderful years of marriage. The two were united in marriage on September 25, 1970, and built a life centered on faith, love, and family. He was the loving father of Kevin Coffey, Karolyn Coffey, and the late Joseph Coffey, and the proud grandfather of Lawrence E. Coffey, Tyler Slabaugh, and Dylan Slabaugh. He was the dear brother of Bill Coffey and the late Loretta Coffey, the late John Coffey, and the late Tom Coffey.
A devoted member of St. Edith Catholic Church for many years, Lawrence's faith was a guiding force throughout his life. A devout Catholic, he found great comfort and joy in attending Mass, often throughout the week, and living out his faith through kindness, humility, and service to others.
Lawrence spent many years working as a pipefitter for General Motors, where he earned the respect of those around him through his strong work ethic and dedication. Outside of work, he enjoyed golfing and took great pride in caring for his home. Gifted with both skill and determination, he could fix just about anything, and nearly every room in the house bears the mark of his handiwork, craftsmanship, and care.
Above all else, Lawrence treasured his family. He loved the life he built with Cecelia and cherished every moment spent with his children and grandchildren. Whether offering a helping hand, sharing a story, or simply being present, he made those around him feel loved and supported. His quiet strength, steady presence, and generous heart will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew him.
A Memorial In State will be held at St. Edith Catholic Church, 15089 Newburgh Road, Livonia, Michigan 48154, on June 13, 2026, from 9:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m., followed by a Memorial Mass at 10:30 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Angela Hospice, whose compassionate care and support brought comfort to Lawrence and his family during his final days.
