Lawrence B. "Larry" Smith, 70, passed away Wednesday, May 8, 2019 in Farmington Hills. Larry was born in Gary, Indiana to Jim and Mary (Amann) Smith. From age 3, Larry lived in Redford after his family moved there. Larry graduated from Redford Thurston High School in 1966.

He served as a Military Policeman in the U.S. Army, stationed in Germany during the Viet Nam War. Beginning in 1972, Larry began working for Ford Motor Company at the Livonia Transmission Plant from as a Machine Operator and proud UAW member. He worked for Ford from 1973-2003. He enjoyed vintage cars, going to car shows as well as watching baseball & football.

Prior to his wife Judy's passing they liked to travel together to northern Michigan, visiting family and the occasional game of chance. Larry was known for his jokes and humor and boundless love for his German Shepherd dogs, family members said.

Biography

Lawrence B. "Larry" Smith, 70, passed away Wednesday, May 8, 2019 in Farmington Hills. Larry was born in Gary, Indiana to Jim and Mary (Amann) Smith. From age 3, Larry lived in Redford after his family moved there. Larry graduated from Redford Thurston High School in 1966. He served as a Military Policeman in the U.S. Army, stationed in Germany during the Viet Nam War. He enjoyed vintage cars, going to car shows as well as watching baseball & football. Larry is survived by his sister, Janice (Hal) Conway; son, Jim L. Smith (Renee); granddaughter, Stefani; nephews, Rob Conway, Jim (Dawn) Conway; niece, Amy (Brian) Smith; and one great-grandson. In addition to his parents, Larry was pre-deceased by his wife, Judy.

Friends may visit on Monday, May 13, 2019 from 2:00-6:00 p.m. at Harry J. Will Funeral Home, 37000 Six Mile Road, Livonia, MI 48152. Larry's service will begin at 6:00 p.m.
