Linda Ann Hansen (Johnston), age 76, of Novi, Michigan, passed away unexpectedly on October 16, 2026. She was born in Detroit, Michigan, on May 27, 1950, to Orval Robert Johnston and Delores Jean Johnston (Nascimben). She was a caring, loving mother, wife, daughter, sister, aunt, grandmother, great-grandmother, cousin, and friend.
Linda was drawn to music very early in life, and it was a strong and consistent presence throughout her life. Many people know she was a pianist. Not many people know that she taught herself how to play the piano in a freezing garage in Livonia, Michigan, when it was so cold she practiced for hours wearing gloves with the fingertips cut off to keep her hands warm. She also played the accordion, the organ, and the keyboard. She was also a very talented singer, participating in numerous church ensembles and choirs. Linda even had a record with the Jubilee Singers, and formed her own trio, “Living Word Singers,” travelling around S.E. Michigan.
June 21, 1984, Linda and Robert (Bob) Hansen married at Ward Presbyterian Church, surrounded by friends and family. Linda and Bob lived in many places throughout their married life, including West Palm Beach, Florida; Waxhaw, North Carolina; and Cadillac, Michigan. They returned to the metro Detroit area in 2022 to be closer to family. Linda and Bob had many adventures together. They took extensive road trips on their motorcycles and snowmobiles, and even traveled to Africa for a safari. One of the highlights of her life was Linda’s mission trip to Nepal, fulfilling a lifelong dream to do field mission work.
Linda had many jobs, many of them unpaid, like being a bookkeeper for her father’s missionary work in Jamaica. Her most traditionally impressive job title was the President of Manutech Inc., a successful family-owned and operated printing business in Detroit and then Livonia, Michigan. She was a talented stained-glass artist, and in the 1990’s she had a small shop in Livonia called Reflections of You.
Linda will be remembered for her generosity, particularly when others were facing hardships. Her daily life included praying for others, her quiet time before dawn, listening to her favorite Christian music and singing along, sending words of encouragement, and checking in with friends and loved ones. She cared deeply for others, always sending cards for birthdays, anniversaries, and milestones.
She is survived by loving husband, Bob (Robert); daughter Pamela and husband Andreas; brother Robert Johnston and wife Carole; sister Beth Bacyinski and husband Mark; stepson Ronald and wife Lily; stepson Michael and wife Brenda; stepdaughter Barbara; 8 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and countless friends.
Friends and family are invited to gather on Saturday, October 24, 2026, at Oak Pointe Church, located at 50200 W. 10 Mile Road, Novi, Michigan 48374, beginning at 10:00 a.m., with a memorial service starting at 11:00 a.m., followed by a luncheon at the church. Private interment with family at United Memorial Gardens Cemetery on Monday, October 26, 2026.
