Passed away on the morning of February 3, 2022, at the age of 95. Lola was born in May 1926 to William and Jean Park in Chatham, Ontario, Canada. She attended Dearborn High School, followed by the University of Toledo. It was at this time that she met her beloved husband James “Jim” Cooper, at a dance in Chatham while he was stationed at Camp Ipperwash. Lola married Jim in May 1948 and had three children, Christine, James “Bill,” and Peter. She was a devoted and loving wife to Jim for 66 years. Her commitment, dedication, and admiration for him is what we should all strive to have with our loved ones. She was a great role model for a wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and sister. Her first job was at Michigan Bell, followed by being a full-time mom, and in later years she worked for Henry Ford Museum & Greenfield Village. She enjoyed being close to her family and her retirement years in Florida were spent with Jim and her siblings all living within feet of each other, with regular visits from her children and grandchildren. She also enjoyed family trips to Erieau.
Lola loved animals and had a special place in her heart for cats, adopting several during her lifetime including Koko, Chumley, Betsy, and Joey. She had an impeccable style, loving to shop at Talbots, Von Maur and Hudsons, with a special affinity for stylish hats. Always on trend, she enjoyed the finer things in life, but she also had an appreciation for the simple things too like a good sauteed yellow perch or an ice-cold Coke. She also enjoyed reading, especially a good mystery and could be found often reading an Agatha Christie novel.
She adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and enjoyed spending time with them whether it be attending their sports or life events, taking them to lunch and shopping, and would think nothing of whipping up a crustless BLT or egg salad sandwich at a moment's notice. She never wanted anyone to leave her table without a full belly.
Lola was one of the kindest people you could meet. She always showed her family so much love and warmth and took an interest in what was going on in everyone’s lives. She put others first and never wanted to inconvenience anyone. She spoiled her family every chance she could and made sure they always knew she was thinking about them, near and far. She also had a great sense of humor, was always up for a good joke, and enjoyed sharing funny bits from her favorite show “Everybody Loves Raymond.”
She is predeceased by her husband Jim, her brother Larry Park, brother-in-law Bob Parker, and sisters-in-law Edith (Russ) and Irene. She is survived by, and the cherished mother of, Christine (John) Ossenmacher, James “Bill” (Gail) Cooper, and Peter (Rina) Cooper. Proud “Grams” of Carrie Cooper, Ryan (Becky) Ossenmacher, and Maggie (Jordan) Bibbings; great-grandma of Lola and Finley Ossenmacher, and Cooper Bibbings; and step-grandma of Heather (Donald) Power and family. Also survived by dear sisters Alice Parker, Susan Park, sister-in-law Joy Park, and brother-in-law Clarence (Sylvia) Cooper. Additionally, she leaves behind many loving extended family members.
A private celebration of her life is planned for a later date. The family would like to thank the staff at The Retreat of Northville for the kind care and love shown to Lola.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.HarryjWillLivonia.com for the Cooper family.
