Lawrence, fondly known as Lon, was born on September 8, 1946, in Chicago, Illinois, and passed away peacefully on June 19, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family. A devoted husband, proud father, cherished Daddy-o, and loyal friend, Lon was the heart of his family and a light in every room he entered.
A true family man, Lon found his greatest joy in the time spent with his loved ones. Whether at his cherished home in Northville or in South Haven, his happiest moments were those spent with Chris, his beloved wife, and their loyal companion, Mr. Mumm. Together, they shared a love for the simple pleasures in life- a great glass of wine, sunsets, a walk on the beach, fabulous dinners with family and friends.
Lon's charm and smile made an impression on everyone he met. His passion for life extended into every corner, especially his career, which began at Marshall Fields in Chicago in the Food and Wine department. Upon moving to Michigan, he became the Wine Buyer for J.L. Hudson Company.
He then transitioned to the distributor side of the wine business, where he thrived as a respected and accomplished wine educator. His love for wine and dedication to educating others, whether at Schoolcraft College, at the Thanksgiving table, or at a small dinner party, were known throughout Northville. He especially enjoyed “Thirsty Thursdays,” when each week he would open a special bottle of wine to share with friends and family. Now the angels have their own Sommelier in heaven. His favorite travels took him on many adventures to the vineyards of California, the warmth of Arizona and Florida, the majesty of Europe, and many family fishing trips that created treasured stories to be shared for years to come.
A dedicated Detroit Lions fan, Lon never lost hope in his team- his loyalty and optimism embodied the same Grit that he showed when he took on battling pancreatic cancer.
He leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and lasting memories. His presence will be deeply missed but forever remembered in the hearts of those fortunate enough to have known him.
He also leaves behind a remarkable circle of friends, his fellow Men Cook Dinner Chefs, and countless cherished memories and stories to be remembered forever.
Lon is survived by his wife of 57 years, Christine, his daughter Kimberly (Carl) Stieler, son Michael Connery, daughter Meghan (Brian) Gorman, his adored grandson Luke, his brother-in-law Steven (Debbie) Bacik, his nieces Jessica and Ashley, nephew Nicholas, and their families. His cousins Pat Connery, Marcia Maus Bollo, Billy, and David Maus.
A visitation will be held Tuesday, June 24, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Harry J. Will Funeral Home, 37000 Six Mile Road, Livonia, Michigan 48152. Friends and family are invited to return to the funeral home Wednesday, June 25, at 9:00 AM for a final viewing and prayer ahead of the funeral mass beginning at 10:00 AM at St Kenneth Catholic Church, 14951 N Haggerty Rd, Plymouth, Michigan 48170.
Contributions in his memory are appreciated to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation.
