Graduated Summa cum laude in 1951 (English Literature) from The University of Detroit. Wife of fellow 1951 U of D graduate David Michael Nolta (died 2017); their courtship began in their schooldays at Saint Cecilia and culminated with David’s proposal on his knees in the snow. Loretta and David were married in 1953 and shared and survived 63 years of expanding family and love that expanded exponentially with it.
Loretta is survived by her brother, George Derbin, of Saint Louis, Missouri; by her five children— Laurie Angela Nolta, David Derbin Nolta, Michael Cornelius Nolta, Kathleen Virginia Nolta (R. Michael Garavito), and Juliet Marie Nolta (John Mullaney); and by four grandchildren—Jennifer (Kroupa) Harrigal, Timothy Kroupa, Elizabeth Garavito and David Garavito; and three great grandsons—Ethan, Lucas, and Mason Harrigal. For all of these and for many more family members and friends, Loretta was a steadfast model of kindness, quiet wit, clear thinking, humane action, true and constant piety, and deep love. Where she was, was so like heaven, this can be no great transition.
Loretta's family will receive guests for a visitation on Sunday, August 13, 2023 from 5pm – 7pm at Harry J. Will Funeral Home 37000 Six Mile, Livonia, MI 48152.
The Funeral Mass will be at 11:00am on Monday, August 14, 2023 at St. Colette Catholic Church 17600 Newburgh, Livonia, MI 48152. Final Viewing will begin at the church at 10:30am.
Loretta will be laid to rest next to her husband at Holy Sepulchre Catholic Cemetery.
