Born in 1930 to Louis and Stella Wiesen, Louise was an avid reader whose passion for learning shaped her life. While raising seven daughters, she continued her education and earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Education from Eastern Michigan University in 1970. She then began a 20-year career as an English teacher in the Livonia Public Schools, where she shared her love of literature with generations of students.
It was at one of her schools where Louise met Edward Baugh, a high school History teacher, whom she married in the early 1980s. Together they enjoyed traveling the world, including an African safari and visits to Hong Kong, Morocco, Thailand, S. Korea, Singapore, Bali, and Egypt. They made it to every continent but Antarctica and South America.
After retiring at age 60, Louise remained intellectually engaged through daily New York Times crossword puzzles and Sudoku, which she loved sharing with her family. She was known for her generous hospitality, always welcoming family and friends into her home. In later years, she found great joy tending her gardens, nurturing them with the same care she showed to those she loved.
Louise is survived by six daughters: Nancy McKendrick; Lisa (Mike) Kirk; Margaret (David Masko) Attridge; Julie (Ron) Hintz; Carla (David) Cottrell; and Sarah (Terry) Schlusler; as well as her son-in-law, Eric Thuma. She is also survived by her twelve beloved grandchildren: Allison (Mark), Jim, Alex (Samm), Melissa (Bill), EJ (Laura), Stephanie (Scott), Andrew (Tara), Rick (Carlyn), Thomas, Michael, Mary (Charlie), and Nathan (Ciera); along with ten cherished great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Louis and Stella Wiesen; her husband, Edward Baugh; her sister, Stella; and her beloved daughter, Laura Thuma.
Louise will be remembered for her love of learning, her kindness, her generosity, and her unwavering devotion to family.
