Margaret Sabuda, born March 4th, 1929 in Romania to German parents, passed away at the age of 93 on February 15th, 2013. The eldest of 8 children, she is survived by 3 sisters, Liesel, Agnes and Elsa. Following WWII, during which she’d been separated from her family and shuffled around Europe, Margaret reached for a better life and solo immigrated from Salzburg, Austria to the USA (Detroit) in 1951. There she met Josef and they married 6 weeks later. They were married for 49 years until his death in August of 2000. They lived in Livonia for 28 years where they raised their children (Carl, Henry, Mark, Mary and Anne). They then built a home in Northville and moved there in 1981. Margaret was strong, fiercely independent, loving, and fun…an avid reader, history buff, helpful volunteer, wonderful cook, and a competitive card/game player who loved international travel. Having lost Carl in 2019 and Mary in 2021, she is survived by Henry, Mark, and Anne, as well as by 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to Community Opportunity Center, where her son Carl was a family member for 42 years, would be greatly appreciated. Community Opportunity Center, 14147 Farmington Rd, Livonia, MI 48154.
A Celebration of Life will be held for the family sometime in July.
