Marie Louise "Cookie" Rist

Marie was the beloved wife of 64 years to Thomas Rist, sharing a lifetime of love, laughter, and unwavering devotion. She was the loving mother of Debbie (Tim) Frey, Tom (Karen) Rist, and Cindy Brust, and a proud and devoted grandma of Matthew (Teddie) Frey, Patrick (Ashley) Frey, Trevor (Belinda) Brust, Devin Brust, Justin Brust, Michael Doneghey, and Stephen Doneghey. She was a cherished great-grandma to Elliott Frey and Linkin Frey, who brought her endless joy and smiles. Marie was also a dear sister-in-law of Joan (the late David) Wright, as well as an Aunt, Cousin and enduring friend to so many.

Marie is preceded in death by her parents Frank Kalinowski and Marie Ambrose, and her siblings Larry (Joann) Kalinowski and Ben (Lynn) Kalinowski. She is now reunited with her beloved fur babies Coco, Princess, and Daisy, who were such special companions throughout her life.

Marie was a long-time and faithful member of St. Edith Catholic Church in Livonia, where her husband Tom sang in the choir. Together, they enjoyed being part of the church community and the friendships they built there over the years. Marie found happiness in life’s simple and meaningful moments—tending to her garden, watching the birds outside her window, and enjoying a good book. She liked to stay active by swimming and bowling, and she appreciated the comfort of her routines. While cooking was never her favorite pastime, she truly loved going out to eat, especially at Thomas's Family Dining and Archie's Tavern, where she could relax and enjoy good food and company.

Above all, Marie’s greatest joy was her family. She treasured every moment spent together, whether it was holidays, gatherings, or quiet visits. Her warmth, steady presence, and genuine love made those around her feel cared for and at home. She had a kind and gentle spirit, and her memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.

Funeral Visitation will be held at Harry J Will Funeral Homes, 37000 W. Six Mile Road, Livonia, Michigan 48152, on Tuesday, March 31, 2026, from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm, with the Rosary at 7:00 pm.

Funeral In State will take place at St Edith Catholic Church, 15089 Newburgh Rd, Livonia, Michigan 48154, on Wednesday, April 1, 2026, from 10:30 am to 11:30 am, followed by the Funeral Mass at 11:30 am.

Final resting place will be at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly, MI.

Marie will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing and loving her, and her memory will continue to bring comfort to those she leaves behind.
