Mary Attard, beloved mother, Nana, and friend, passed away peacefully on June 3, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. Born on February 23, 1932, in Detroit, MI, to Anthony and Jessie (Mallia) Xerri, Mary lived a full and vibrant life marked by her deep love for her family and her proud Maltese heritage.
Mary's life was a testament to selflessness and devotion. Her children, grandchildren, and extended family were her world, and she found her greatest joy in spending time with them. Whether she was attending her grandchildren's performances, visiting her grandson on his Air Force base, or simply enjoying a family gathering, Mary was always there with her warm, infectious laugh and her loving, sassy spirit.
An avid reader and lover of the outdoors, Mary cherished her time at the lake. She also had a keen interest in keeping up with today's celebrities, finding joy in staying connected with the world around her. Her faith was a cornerstone of her life, providing her with strength and comfort throughout her years.
In her later years, Mary was blessed with the companionship of her special caregiver and best friend, Rhonda Danaj. Together, they shared many adventures, from trips to Coney Island and the Henry Ford Museum to nostalgic visits to downtown Detroit, where Mary revisited her cherished memories.
Mary is survived by her devoted children: Steven (Laura) Attard, Sheree (Rob) Askew, Julie (Jose) Velazques, and Valentina (Don) Slute. She also leaves behind her treasured grandchildren: Steven Attard II, Devin Attard, Hannah Askew, Noah Askew, Michael Slute, and Whitney Slute, and her great-grandchild, Olivia Kane. Additionally, she is remembered fondly by her sister-in-law, Theresa Xerri.
Mary joins in eternal rest her parents, Anthony and Jessie, her husband Charles “Chuck”, and her brothers, Joseph Xerri and John (Joyce) Xerri, who preceded her in death.
In memory of Mary's generous spirit, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to 180 Restored Ministries or the Capuchin Soup Kitchen.
Mary's legacy of love, laughter, and faith will forever be cherished by all who knew her. She will be deeply missed and fondly remembered.
