Beloved wife of Mario Galasso for 66+ wonderful years. Loving mother of Michael (Leilani), Mark (Leslie), and Raymond (Colleen) Galasso. Cherished grandmother of Beau Galasso, Nicholas Galasso, Lisa (Devin) Banda, Lauren (Jacob) Berkal, Alaina Galasso, Raymond G. Galasso, and Shianne Galasso. Proud great grandmother of soon-to-be Gordie Berkal. Mary is preceded in death by her sister, Catherine Sapp and half siblings; Clement Doemer, Frank Doemer, and Dolores Dougherty.
Mary was born and raised in Detroit, Michigan. She met Mario, the love of her life at an early age at the Five and Dime and they fell in love and later married on October 6, 1956, at St. Rita’s Catholic Church. After starting their family, Mary and Mario moved away from Detroit to the suburbs to make Livonia their home where they established a network of neighborhood friends that are still close and stay meaningfully connected to this day. Once Mary’s children were a bit older, she was firm about ensuring her kids went to college and received a good education, so she started school and completed her associate degree to enter the professional work force to help provide for her family. Mary started out as a bookkeeper for a Law Firm in Southfield, Michigan and later moved her way up to Office Administrator for Colombo & Columbo in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan.
Remarkably, Mary was the first and only female President, to date, of the Italian American Club in Livonia. Mario and Mary were founding members and have since remained loyal members. Mary gave her time, talents and treasure to the St. Louis Center in Chelsea, Michigan to help serve individuals with intellectual and development disabilities. Mary was a devout Catholic and faithfully attended, as a child, St. Rita’s Catholic Church and School where she met lifetime friends, later raising her children in the Catholic faith. Mary never missed a day of prayer and evangelized God’s and Jesus’ teachings to her family, friends and all she encountered. Mary was the epitome of a caregiver; it was who she was. She faithfully devoted herself to Mario’s health and care. She was a friend to everyone she met; she was always there to check in on you. Mary was also a fighter for herself, her family and friends despite multiple serious health challenges. If you were going through a tough time, Mary was the one person always there as a fierce fighter for you, fully giving you her time, talents and treasure. She was the Guardian Angel everyone needed. Mary’s precious soul will be dearly missed by all the lives she touched but God’s angel on earth has now been returned to God.
