In 1964, Mary married the love of her life, Gary Kavanagh. Their marriage, which began on January 18, 1964, was filled with devotion and joy until Gary’s passing in 1985.
Mary was the beloved mother of Katherine (Chuck) Snyder and Gary (Andrea) Kavanagh. She took tremendous pride in her children and the families they built. She was the cherished grandmother of Gary (Hannah) Kavanagh, Jr., Emery Jo Kavanagh, Rachael (Michael) Salt, Ryan (Camila) Snyder, and Spencer Kavanagh, and the adoring great-grandmother of Jack, Kinzie, and Evelyn. Nothing brought her more joy than being surrounded by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved hosting sleepovers when they were young, volunteering with them each year for the Good Fellows, and taking memorable trips together—especially to Frankenmuth, where she delighted in watching them play arcade games.
Mary is survived by her sisters, Sally and Nancy, and her sisters-in-law, Bev and Marsha. She was preceded in death by her parents, Carmen and Mary Damico; her husband, Gary; and her brothers, Joe and Pete.
A true homebody at heart, Mary found happiness in the simple pleasures of life. She was an avid flower gardener and took pride in tending to her flowerbeds each season. She enjoyed sewing, cooking for her family, and spending time playing bingo with her friends at Oakmont Senior Living. She also loved casino trips—especially trying her luck at the slot machines.
Mary devoted time to her community as well, volunteering in a secretarial capacity at Botsford Hospital. Her willingness to help others left a lasting impression on everyone she met.
In accordance with Mary’s wishes, a private entombment will take place at Glen Eden Memorial Park in Livonia, Michigan. In lieu of flowers, those desiring may consider contributions in Mary's memory to the Livonia Goodfellows, an organization that was close to her heart.
