Born in Detroit to the late James R. Young and Madeline M. Young, Michael was a devoted son, brother, and uncle whose quiet presence and gentle generosity touched many lives.
A lifelong Catholic, Michael lived a humble life guided by his faith. He never married but poured his love into his family, especially his nieces and nephews, who fondly remember his generosity and thoughtfulness. He also supported numerous Catholic charities throughout his life.
Michael spent most of his adult years in Detroit, where he remained deeply interested in the city’s political landscape and maintained a special affection for the southwest Detroit neighborhood where his grandparents once lived. He was an avid reader, enjoyed following local politics, and loved listening to the radio—especially to hear his beloved Detroit Tigers play.
Michael will be deeply missed by his siblings, Patrick Young and Colleen Reck; his nieces and nephews, Karen Slifco, Erin Lin, Kelly Holt, Breean Gladish, Kerry Salvatore, Mark Young, David Young, and Ryan Young; and many extended family members and friends. He is reunited in eternal life with his sister, Maureen Costa, and his niece, Maureen Reck.
A funeral in state will take place on Saturday, November 1, 2025, from 10:00 AM until 10:30 AM at St. Edith Catholic Church, 15089 Newburgh Rd, Livonia, Michigan, followed by a Memorial Mass at 10:30 AM.
Michael’s faith, kindness, and steady presence will be lovingly remembered by all who knew him.
